ESV has some breezy bops that really scratch an itch. I probably won't get tired of listening to Jaded casually in the car.

SB seems better on the surface and I was impressed on first listen, but it tries a bit too hard and I dont find myself wanting to go back and listen. End of the World is the only song I'd be happy throwing on a playlist.

I love Kate Bush, FKA Twigs, and lots of genres of music beyond pop, so not sure what happened with SB but it seems to occupy an awkward position between radio pop and avant garde pop and it doesnt really satisfy in either category.

one of the best examples of people not really giving the album a chance because there was no hype/ it bombed
its definitely her best album and one of the best albums of last year overall

Didn't she release a prelude or the track something beautiful as the leads? It'd be a different story had she released end of the world as the first song.

I found the album really boring, it has no replay value, but I guess I could hear it once again (just heard it one and it was with the movie, which was a waste of time)

This album is pop friendly and is consumed by gays lmao that is why WOF is the biggest album track. This is not some Bjork project that is kinda inaccessible to the masses. This album is not that experimental and the singles were very pop in sound.

Its not her best album. Plastic Hearts and Midnight Sky alone sh*ts on Something Hideous.

I blame the tracklist order and the messy rollout for it flopping tbh. The first half of the album, while still good, feels at times incohesive with the album struggling to find its identity switching between experimental songs and a safe pop sound. Only once you start with the records Side B starting with Walk of Fame it feels like Miley is truly delivering what she intended the album to sound like. I would imagine if the tracklist went sth like WoF - PYG - EGYEL - Reborn - EL - GBS - EotW - .... it would have been received better.

Now combine this with dropping the album as a whole without any pre-releases while immediately launching the movie/MVs on Youtube and you have a far more successful era on your hands...

the album is still panned and majority of the audience that Carly Rae or Addison for example would have still don't care about the album. it doesn't have to be that complicated or that unconventional to be inaccessible and have a message/audience connection issue: people just didn't 'get' this album, when even a platform like atrl has few supporters then there's clearly an issue. Witness was similar but the singles at least were more conventional and coherent compared to Miley's. you mention WOF but the Naomi track was a single and both have horrible recurrent stats, 10 and 20k daily.

Plastic Hearts and Endless are better than this album (in my opinion).

Plastic Hearts/Dead Petz/Breakout erasure as her best albums. SB stans will never convince me this record was good

I really love the album. One of my favorites from this decade but the songs are a bit too threathrical???? they dont feel very conventional. i dont know
I also feel like the visual movie is not as groundbreakin as it was pushed. Lacks a clearer plot* but im grateful for it
I live for the vids and the fashion and how hot she looks there.
Definitely the rollout was a mess.
I remember gettin hyped about the movie release and then it took a lot of time and some videos were already out and it was all a mess.

I think they expected the song about Liam to do good but it didnt work....More to lose
End of the world also suited the current state of times apocalyptic but i feel like the song is a bit weird to be big. A bit too pop rock?
