On May 30, 2025 Miley released her ninth studio album, Something Beautiful. It was the follow up to her successful record Endless Summer Vacation which featured Flowers, a #1 hit and the biggest of Miley's career.

Despite her previous album's success, Something Beautiful failed to do well as it debuted at #4 with 44,000 units and only stayed on the charts for 2 weeks.

The lead single, End of the World stalled as well as it only reached #52.

In my opinion it's arguably Miley's best album as it has a very sophisticated production, good songwriting and great melodies. The record had a decent promotional push by Columbia Records as well, since a music film accompanied the release.

Despite all of this, Something Beautiful has only moved 500,000 units. What went wrong?

Flowers is the quintessential example of a song transcending the artist's popularity. Finite Winter Occupation was barely the album of the day, let alone the week or year.

Should've released Reborn as the lead

Miley's unwillingness to find a unique sound and instead jumping from genre to genre has really inhibited her ability to form a solid fanbase. Maybe she doesn't care and she wants to explore new sounds, but if she wanted a successful era she would've built on the Plastic Hearts sound

The fact that it was able to move 500k units is surprising to be honest. It performed far worse on charts than it looks.

it's everywhere near her best album, thank God we got this masterpiece after that atrocious album Endless Skip Vacations

The walk of fame should have been the lead

The album had bops, but somehow she always ends up disappointing me. I was not even interested in this album after Endless Summer Vacation and I find her mid tempo songs incredibly boring since Flowers.

it's not pop friendly and the rollout was absolutely horrible. you can still do avant garde but make it digestible at least for the gays, but she failed on that front. i am still surprised that EOTW didn't do more, it was a good single choice and came early enough to get some initial support.

there was no clear audience for this project and even now most people don't know that the album exists.

Just a another classic case of the GP not having taste

Her best album is Plastic Hearts.

It really is one of the best pop girl albums ever released like it's absolutely pure genius front to end. But it didn't have a selling narrative to its name nor was the campaign that well thought out nor executed. Oh well maybe M10 will do better with the Hannahversary hype, there's hoping

No one expected the GP to get Something Allahful

If we're being real tho, the "movie" was a bit of a scam, it's just Miley parading in beautiful gowns so I get - partly - the pretentious criticism.

Other than that, it's her best overall project by a landslide, and it should have been released without any singles preceding

I adore Miley and love most of her music but it is her worst album for me

She should have lead with walk of fame, then released secrets, golden burning sun, and easy lover as singles through the year. she played herself by releasing the songs she did, and it was a mistake to make the beginning of the album so slow and samey.
