Let's be honest, I love her, but she's saying that because her album flopped. And to stay relevant and even to get income, you need to have numbers. 

Something beautiful is my second fav if not my favorite album of the year. Y'all are doing too much on that album especially the swiffer wet jets

Miley cares about numbers when shes got something to prove, that moment isn't right now but she's always changing her mind.

The year is 2025 and there are LA-based artists that are still pushing the idea they enjoy being flops 

 

It's one thing to go out of your way to make music you think will catch on and another thing to not be bothered when you flop time after time while being an A-lister (?) on a major label

Aside from the fact that this statement happens right when she's flopping...

 

I always find artists signed to major labels saying that the success doesn't matter to just be coping/liars. Why the hell are you signed to a major if you don't care about selling? Why go through this trouble when you could just be signed to an indie label and be free from anything a big label can ask from you? 

 

I completely agree with the sentiment that success should not be part of the creative process (at least, as little as can be because again, these artists are signed to majors so it's inevitable that the potential of the project is being taken into consideration, especially for someone that doesnt have full control of their career). But once the art is made, I do not believe these big artists that tell you they dont care how the music performs. 

Me when I release a flop album that no one remembers even came out 

Somebody tell her music has a mathematical component to it.

She's right, there's been more great and impactful flops than smash albums. 

 

Be happy when you see a major success but it shouldn't be the driving force of why you make art. Y'all don't know 70% of the most popular music from the past because while popular it didn't amount to anything.

even if the album was more successful, i think she'd still have the same attitude. miley has distanced herself so much from commercial success.

I really love her but if she had uninterrupted successful albums/singles she would have never got that "music not the bling" mentality, Miley is the kind of person with a strong ego, if she was highly successful she would have another tone about it that's for sure 

Something Beautiful is a great album. Her albums usually have 50% or more crap / fillers. This album has like no fillers. 

 

People here just like to judge music based off what 13 year old girls listen to on Spotify.

Michael Jackson is famous for having the biggest album of all time, that is mentioned to this day. Beatles who sold the most physical records ever. Garth Brooks has the moat diamond albums ever. Same with Elton John with the best selling physical single ever. Rihanna sold the most digital singles ever. Or that Beyonce has the most Grammys ever. Adele has the biggest album debut week ever. Taylor with the biggest tour ever. Mariah with her most #1 singles for a solo artist. All part of the music industries numbers game and artists are proud of them, the media continues to mention such records.
