With KATSEYE blowing up and several labels getting boybands/girlgroups, are any of them going to stick?

How many actual hits do all those bands you've posted have combined? The answer is 0. So no

Flo has so much talent, but the material is just so meh

So are we just going to ignore that Korean pop groups have been touring stadiums ww and posting numbers on par with basically every 21st century pop group except for the nsync and destiny's child for over a decade?  KATSEYE are blowing up literally because they're a sister group to BTS.

I think OP means non K-Pop groups and a resurgence is desperately needed, honestly. Some of us don't vibe with these K-Pop groups (respectfully!)

??? Haven't Blackpink and BTS been HUGE for years? Or they don't count because they're not from the West? lol

KATSEYE is under a kpop label and operating exactly like a kpop group with the same management and a&r. If somebody vibes with them and not with other kpop GGs its rooted in racism. We welcome y'all into the fandom just the same but it is what it is. 

 

DEARALICE, another group in the op, is a failed experiment by my kpop favs' label to debut a group of white people. GIRLSET is a sister group to Twice and trying even less to bury their kpop origin than the others. kpop is driving this spike in pop groups.

I don't vibe with them either because of that. I'm more of a FLO stan and I'm digging some of Say Now as well.

 

However I love that western markets have been expanding their horizons. I wish BoA blew up when she debuted with Eat You Up in the States.

this is kinda a byproduct of kpop blowing up in the 2010s, before that interest in ggs/bgs waned a lot

I find those experiments a bit strange. If they are like KATSEYE the music sounds completely K-Pop while sung in English (right?) and most of their members are not Asian and I can't see the appeal in that, not sure what the goal is. What I meant with my other post is that we need more groups like the ones we grew up with before K-Pop groups blew up. Tbh I don't know most of the groups in the OP so sorry for the confusion, I totally see the point you're trying to make

no na is an indonesian group formed by 88rising(im assuming u know who that is since u stan Rina), which exclusively collaborates with favorite writers/producers of western kpop fans as well.

 

FLO are talented too but outside of them the current crop of relevant or internet-relevant groups are almost all kpop or kpop adjacent. I think these western kpop groups are half western labels trying to wrap their heads around the kpop business model and half kpop labels recognizing that racism was a bigger barrier to western markets than they previously thought.

There was a time when Western GG fans were lucky if a group even managed to release a full album (RichGirl, Velvet Angels, Paradiso Girls, June's Diary, Girlicious in the States), so I'd say yes.

Thanks for educating me a bit on this because it's interesting. I thought the attempt at making western K-Pop groups was something relatively new that people weren't really into but if more groups like this keep popping up then that must mean something...

The word hit is losing its meaning. Is a top 20 on Spotify and barely making to the top 80 on the Hot 100 truly enough to be considered a hit in 2025? Tragic. Gabriela feels extremely niche. Most people irl outside of stan twitter wouldn't recognize this song.

I don't see it happening in western markets, most of the big boy bands and girl groups from the last era were popular from exposure from big talent shows / reality shows when that genre was big, we don't really have that anymore. I hope it happens though, I need a GG back on top
