Justified is a weird way to frame it, but it definitely adds to the lore that make Sweetener and Thank U Next special albums.

 

She basically made an album inspired by and about being in love with Mac Miller, that then became about something bigger after suffering a extremely unique tragedy that wasn't really about her despite defining so much about what was to be her life, and then...... the same man dumps her weeks before the album's release due to his own personal issues. The song then gets added to the album last-minute, with the tracklisting still in flux.

 

The song represents the album's mission statement, her trying to reclaim the album back from being about Mac Miller in the rubble of their break-up.

 

The entire M.O of the Sweetener album is her going "no! Life can be great and happy!! I swear I'm happy!! I can be happy!!!!"

 

....and then said ex-boyfriend unexpectedly dies from an overdose, and the fall-out from such leads to the unraveling of her at-the-time engagement.

 

We have the demo of TUN where the original line is "still wish I could have fixed Malcolm cause he was an angel".

I don't get why she doesn't just rename the song… or at least add "(happy)" (or some other alternate title in parentheses) to the end of it or something lol. I've seen minor changes in song titles like that before.

Was Jack Harlow justified in naming a song Dua Lipa?

She also gave eternal sunshine the same initials as Ethan Slater which to me is far more egregious, a whole album for a sponge 

It's kinda funny and their relationship is iconic to that era so I say it should stay

She doesn't care and she's in good terms with him 

And then of all people. I'd have reissued the album and renamed it, honestly.

It's just an interlude that she'll probably just ignore for the rest of her career.

You must be confused as the quoted text refers to Mac, with Mac's previous GF confirming that he told her that *he* broke up with Ariana, and several of Mac's friends confirming they were upset that he broke up with her cause they believed Ariana was a stabilizing force in Mac's life and one of his main support systems for living a sober life. 
 

Pete's own comments also confirm that Ariana made it clear she couldn't go through with the marriage anymore and broke up with him, so not sure what this is referring to!
