Not to be a hater but the avg critical score seems to trend higher & higher with every passing year & it gets to a point that good scores mean less & less. Not saying this should've been p

  • Because SNS didn't deserve its score to begin with

I am going to say somewhere in the 60s. Seeing lots of mixed reviews.

"Don't Worry I'll Make You Worry" is a pretty and mournful pivot into shoegaze

I'm aware, but just clarifying to others in the thread who might be interested that it doesn't count

Man's Best Friend review - too much that feels like a first draft

Man's Best Friend, squeezed out almost exactly one year later, strays little further. There are the same "am I right, ladies?" punchlines to its lyrics, the same "oops, did I just say that?" swears and barbs, and overall the same production flourishes.

this is so ruthless but accurate :deadbanana2:

The way all of these, even the lukewarm ones, directly contradict everything you've said :rip:

Then again, there's a Trojan horse quality to Man's Best Friend: it's so distinctly Carpenter that you might not even realise it's one of the year's singular, musically provocative pop records.

Quote

played almost entirely with live instruments and packed with so many hooks that it feels as if it might burst at the seams, it seems a true creative arrival for Carpenter. The most significant provocation here may be a newly minted star, beloved by gen Z, going against industry orthodoxy and packing an album with unusual instruments, including clavinet, sitar and agogo, and making distinct allusions to Abba and Fleetwood Mac's Tusk.
