The idea of an artist selling out is so interesting to me. Sevdaliza is probably making the most amount of money she has ever made from music and stayed super authentic throughout releasing children of Silk, ISON and Shabrang. Alibi blew up massively (after Ride or Die grew on TikTok) and became one of the biggest independently released records ever - an Iranian immigrant, a drag queen from Brazil and a black French chanteuse charting on the billboard Hot 100 was and still is an insane feat. To follow that format of 'pop song' makes sooo much more sense… it's reinvention as a different kind of artist to what she was before. To the people who want her to go back to the earlier sound there are a million more artist out there making trip-hop adjacent music on SoundCloud or bandcamp it's so worth looking for.

 

Her old albums still exist, but from what I can gage lots of Last.fm and Topster gays see it as a demise for an artist to go unapologetically commercial, as if it some way tarnishes a legacy. It's interesting, it's a new audience for her and for people to find her old stuff! Needless to say that this is probably reading way too far in to it, but I see strategy as opposed to this blind sudden switch of music authenticity.

Girl, she found success/numbers and started creating the same song over and over to get those Brazilian streams, let's be real here  The fact Heroina is by the same artist as Shabrang is quite sad.
