Do people still watch this and do artists still have their breakout on this show ? Not American, this is a genuine question  It just seem so outdated.

 

People here stopped watching because you're not allowed to bully unfortunate people during the auditions anymore.

I'm baffled by its longevity too, how do people still watch this? It's like those "funniest home videos" shows that used run before we had social media, so outdated now.

I'm sick of America shoving this Woman down our throat. She is the Most successful female country artist because of these things. Her music career is basically dead. Give this spot other female country artists that deserve it.

What even is the point of this show? None of the winners ever make it in the industry. The only exceptions are Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood.

There hasn't really been a successful breakout star that made it far on American Idol in a long time. I think Phillip Phillips was the last one that saw any success iirc. There've been a few artists that auditioned but didn't make it far on the show that have since found success (benson Boone being a notable example).

I wouldn't say her career is dead. She is constantly being nominated for awards and still winning some big awards in the Country music world. She was also somewhat recently nominated for a Grammy in 2022, and she has won 8 Grammys total. She's also the highest-certified female country artist in U.S. history for sales and streams, with over 72 million RIAA-certified units in the US alone. 

 

She's obviously not at the same level as she was on her peak or as a current MPG, but her career is definitely not dead.

Just let it go, it's been a while since this show created a star.

The world will know peace when the television industry lets go of these singing shows you only watch reruns of while sitting in the waiting room of your dentist.

Same reason The Voice is still going strong. These shows are for soccer moms and grandmas who enjoy the talent show aspect of the show itself, but they're not the kind of audience who keeps up with new music. These shows stopped producing stars when the younger generation stopped watching them

It baffles me this still has a viable audience. Nothing is more dated and irrelevant than singing competition shows. I mean the contestants have to know they won't go anywhere career wise by winning American Idol in 2025. The audience for this is geriatric, they aren't going to support a young artist outside the realm of the show.
