It definitely served its purpose but the song is not that good and recently I watched the video again and found it a bit boring despite being her best. I still think it was very cool that she recreated all her past personas and exposing her This Is What You Came For pseudonym was a really boss move.

I'll never get over the fact that Taylor has 5 VOTY wins at the VMAs and yet this didn't even get nominated  LWYMMD is probably her only MV that deserved to win it

I remember feeling really polarised by this when it first came out, although I liked the fact that she was doing something different and I loved the video. Now it's one of my fave Taylor songs.

Can't believe it's only been 8 years, feels like a different lifetime  

 

I find this song really enjoyable personally, but I don't think it's very good. In fact, it's quite cringy - but I embrace it in all its basicness when I listen to it. And the production is great.

It's a very risky song for someone who had a particularly safe and bright image until that point in time.

 

It wasn't quite like Wrecking Ball where it was visually dramatic but sonically in-keeping with what came before.

 

It barely had a melody and was very incendiary. She sounded genuinely angry and the song was like a stream of consciousness, and the video captured it well.
 

It's probably my favourite song of hers and I don't think she'll ever do anything like that again, and no one who's as famous as her will ever risk doing something like that either. A melodically flat and brash, electroclash sound coming from a career of lovey ballads and big arena pop hooks, it's not a risk anyone would take in 2025.

 

So I need to give her her flowers, 10/10

Given how much has happened in her career since then (in the sounds she covered, the amount of music she released, the changes in her public image, the re-recordings) it actually feels crazy this is only eight years ago 

The way this was the biggest single release since Hello at the time. A monumental collapse

Cringeworthy video. 

I know a lot of people dislike this song but I actually really enjoyed it and the whole Reputation Era. This single and its music video was a cultural phenomenon, and is easily her edgiest and boldest single choice to date.
 

She owned being a "villain" and leaned into a more, darker, bad ***** energy which gagged me at the time. The "I'm Too Sexy" sample made it even more iconic.
