Atrl shits on her so much, but her career was really iconic and her streaming stats are truly impressive.

 

I'm not the biggest fan of her albums, but her hits are undeniable.

I'm glad Gimme More took off on streaming the way it did. Her billion streamed songs are all 10/10 classics that deserve it.

I remember listening to this song as a teenager (who wasn't really into music at all) and it was like a hydrogen bomb went off in my brain. I fully blame it for waking up the gay side of me

Yep, her career is nothing short of miraculous. With mostly minimal radio backing (Jive was indie so payola was less prevalent that with other big record labels), very few big awards (again, these can cost a lot) and a media honeymoon that ended as soon as the 99's Rolling Stone cover was out, it's crazy she remains the ultimate 21st century pop legend. The blueprint who turned the industry upside down so solo female popstars could thrive again (succeeding where Debbie Gibson and Tiffany couldn't), and the one whose music is used the most in popular media, all year long! 

 

Also, just to go back to "Gimme More" , this was released in the middle of a relentless and abusive media witch hunt with one of the most infamous performance in history as sole promo... The resurgence of this masterpiece is one for the book. ATRL can troll her, mostly projecting their own insecurities/life's shortcomings onto her, the music remains. And that's what will always separate her from many other music stars, she's THE people's popstar not a media driven one. Mark my words when I say this will end up being more remembered and iconic that many Grammy winning, "spammed on the radio", number ones from the same late 00s era! 

 

Since the 90s, no matter the backlash or the controversies she was in, people have showed up for her from the physical age right up to streaming one with the rehabilitation of her catalogue + the success of 2022's "Hold Me Closer" and "Toxic Pony" (one of them being a random mashup, with no accompanying video, that blew up on his own and outstreamed some of her 90s peers promoted lead single!).
