Billboard shades Alex Warren's "Ordinary": "Does it feel like a 10 week #1?"

Featured Replies

Of course it doesn't but when you insist on keeping the outdated format of radio in the formula :deadbanana4:

Interesting what some of the Billboard staff say:

Quote

Alex Warren's "Ordinary" reaching the 10-week mark at No. 1: surprising or not surprising?

Kyle Denis: Surprising. I hate to be a Negative Nancy, but I really did think a better and more interesting song would have knocked "Ordinary" off the top spot four or five weeks ago. :sabrina:

"Ordinary" is certainly on pace to end the season as Billboard's official song of the summer — do you think it makes sense as a good or fitting honoree for this year?

Kyle Denis: I mean it makes sense because it's the top-performing song of the summer on our charts… but it'd be a bold-faced lie if I said "Ordinary" made any kind of dent in my personal 2025 summer experience. :sabrina:

Andrew Unterberger: Not really ( :eli: ), but the numbers are undeniable.

I'm in Toronto - it feels inescapable on radio.

But even on TikTok I have seen it as the sound for SO MANY TikToks... :deadbanana2:

Even when I use Spotify DJ it always suggests it. I can't get rid of it.

Yes.  Just proves this website and posters are so far removed from actual society.  This song is everywhere

I mean, it was basically the first smash released this year as dreadful as it is but honestly radio is what's kept it atop for at least the last 3 weeks of its run at the summit.

Me too, have no idea how it goes :rip:

It's this year's A Bar Song or Last Night equivalent. An aggressively accessible song that basics, locals, and white America stream en masse even if it doesn't have much of a noticeable cultural stamp. And even then, an overblown, obnoxious, wannabe folk-pop song with culturally traditional and Christian-tinged lyrics is a perfect representation of America right now.

I mean it doesn't but it's one of the very few and true hits of the whole year so you can see why it spent so many weeks at #1.

It's an interesting point.

We live in an increasingly fragmented society. There isn't one culture, or even a few, but millions.

Everyone has constructed their own world through their algorithms. Self selecting the news they read, the music they listen to.

It's therefore increasingly likely that popular songs are not popular in the traditional sense - they don't need to have broad appeal but instead can be hyper popular in very narrow parts of the population.

I've never heard this song and probably never will.

never heard it in full so far but it's in every single travel reel I'm seeing, make it stop pls

I'm from South America, and this song is absolutely inescapable on my social media. Not sure if it's just my algorithm

The audacity of them making such a claim and then allowing BTS or Travis bot'ed songs to debut at #1 tho.

Never heard the song and apparently never saw his face despite thinking I did a few days ago. I guess that was one of those other Ed Sheeran variants that went top ten for no reason. Get them hell out of here.
