the gp is more interested in uptempo music again. plus we have more artists like teddy swims, billie, lana, hozier, and morgan using similar elements of the melancholy soul/ballad style adele presents. also her sporadic releases prob hurts her a bit. do you think she has a chance at scoring another 21/25 smash this decade?

She'll continue to have enormous debuts but I don't think new albums will have legs unless she switches things up a bit. She's definitely the Barbra or Celine of our era.

DWAS will be the biggest hit of 2025 and the song of the summary is a mid tempo ballad, there is a ton of space for her. Even if there wasn't, she had the power to make space if the song is well received.

that kinda fuels my initial point lol. we have several artists smashing in a field she once dominated. if she returns using the same formula, would there be room for her to standout like before.

Sadly, no. As much as I love Adele, after the failure of 30, her next album will flop even harder. It would be best if she didn't try to come back with new material. She's already earned enough to live comfortably and can still perform her old hits, but a new album doesn't make sense. She's not going to turn into a pop star in the modern commercial sense, and another album in her same old formula has no real prospects.

I'm not sure about having a smash single with longevity, but the album would still be big and she will always have insane touring demand.

 

I think she could try the Billie/Taylor rollout and drop the entire album at once, but she's probably sticking to something more traditional as always.

If she got with producers like Disclosure, Kaskade, Calvin Harris and others, she'd be completely fine. She'd be perfect recording bluesy house music.

i wouldn't call 30 a failure.  some artists still dream to reach those heights. mb an underperformance for her standards, yes.

i think she'll continue to be really big over here but one of the themes of this year has been international brit stars like sheeran and capaldi coming back and doing fairly well on the uk charts but not really anywhere else and i wonder if that's where she's heading. that kind of belting voice has gone out of style a bit these days i guess.

 

idk, it's been a long time and i can also imagine her just showing up again out of nowhere and still being massive but the weird thing is that there's been real radio silence, she doesn't even feel like much of a background presence in the uk, the only songs by her that i hear on the radio are things like rolling in the deep and someone like you from years ago.

speaking of dwas. i think adele is one of the few mpg thats never collabed w another big name artist. mb she should be open to collabs. that way she can experiment w diff sounds and not be too risky.

same. i used to hear adele all the time.

Hasn't a Hot AC song been number one for months? What's this about uptempo songs?

She needs to release her A New Day Has Come to switch things up. Enough with the boring ballads

The thought of another release from her makes me feel a sense of staggering sense of dread. Like something absolutely awful is about to happen. I wish this wasn't brought to my attention. I can't shake the feeling now.

Yes if the music is good and the album is not front loaded with a strong first single while the rest of the album is unlistenable

As for really switching things up, I think it's never happening. She would sound great on something like Paloma Faith's Til I'm Done or Florence's My Love, but I get the sense that this is just not what she wants to do, and maybe going too pop and uptempo could alienate her older audience. At the same time I'm not sure if she would abandon typical HAC to go for a deeper blues/rock/jazz sound since that would have less mass appeal.

 

Just hope that whenever the album comes and whatever it sounds like, she'll give us songs as good as Strangers by Nature and Love Is a Game.

 

 

Adele's stature in the industry is built on being pleasant AC/Adult Pop/HAC. She's carved out her own niche perfectly, and that's why 'Easy on Me' was such a massive smash.

 

I think a bigger question is, after the dominance of '21'/'25' there was an enormous amount of hype for '30' - but will there be the same amount of hype for her fifth album?

 

'30' came off the legs of colossal once in a life time moments in music we do not usually see. While '30' was still successful compared to anyone who wasn't Taylor Swift, it did not have the longevity its predecessors had. However, there's definitely space for her music.  

 

Idk, probably depends on how good the new music is, but if she keeps her standards, she'll dominate again. Adele is kinda in her own lane, she doesn't need to take space from anyone else she'll just make her own space when she decides to come back, like she did before. People still love her, and the fact that her releases and appearances are so rare makes her even more appealing to the GP imo.
