  • It certainly isn't because of people listening to the music, given her stream stats.   She's become more of a 'Kardashian' of the music industry.

idk atrl told me she a disabled, local, hasbeen w twitter vibes.

that's NOT true !!

she's not disabled

She's both a legacy act and a contemporary artists - which makes her success difficult for people to understand (including people in this thread).

Legacy artists don't usually have #1 albums or singles, or win AOTY at the Grammys. Likewise, contemporary pop artists don't usually have consistent critical acclaim, and aren't able to support multiple back to back stadium tours.

This is something that Beyoncé has done, which is totally unique to her musical and artistic legacy.

The longevity of her career is amazing, one in a generation

On the other hand she's not really global so her impact is kinda limited

This is not a fair comparison because Beyoncé is actually very talented. She's good at what she's supposed to do: singing and performing

What's Kardashian's talent? They just know how to do business. That seems to be the biggest talent of a certain showgirl as well.

"Not global", yet is one of the most successful female artists in history in Northern and Southern America, Europe, Oceania and Africa. :rip: K.

OT: because she is a talented legend, thats why she has cross generational appeal

i think shes still a powerhouse and a big force in the usa, but over here in asia shes not really the center of pop culture. people connected more with her ballads, i think the last one that really hit was listen. if im not wrong, it only charted in the lower 50s in the states but a hit in asia. its just a different world. america embraced the hiphop/urban side of her, but in asia it was always the ballads that stuck. thats why she feels more like a legacy act here, and honestly, thats not a bad thing.

So unbearable that you're perched in every thread about her? If she's not the centre of pop culture, she's certainly at the centre of your mind.

Not gonna lie I find this thread a bit shocking

So much hate for a woman who minds her business, works hard to deliver quality products and seem to value privacy, family and personal growth.

not to mention that she never had a "bad girl" phase. No sex scandal, no arrest , no dui not even a drunk party girl era.

I find people like that quite admirable. And yes I'm sure she has her flaws but u don't become a billionaire by being nice u kinda have to be cut throat.

I find it really strange how most of her peers are quickly forgiven for their antics but so many of you act like she's killed your first born.

had she invited someone to come throw up on her at a concert im sure she would never live this down.

I think deep down she knows she's not given the same grace as her peers which kinda explains why she's so detached

She remained artistically interesting, showed consistent dedication and is still extremely pretty.

Hard feat to pull off. :clap3:

Oh, and talent, loads of it.

But what exactly is unbearable about her? She barely promotes, it's not like you turn on your TV and see her on every talkshow and commercial. Unless you go out of your way to look at her instagram, all you really have to bear is word-of-mouth discussion of her and her work with some infrequent promotional spots you can easily skip.

Which leads me to believe you maybe can't bear the idea of her, which is a you-problem, something rather immature that states because you don't like her, others liking her is more reason to not like her, resulting in this "unbearable" adjective you've put forward.

of course, this is all conjecture. you've not articulated your feelings well enough to really prove if your disdain is rooted in racism or just petty feelings...feelings of which you seem to exhibit quite frequently for someone who cannot bear the artist centered in threads you willingly enter.

For Beyoncé I think there are many things coming together in her favour. Some are her doing, some are not.

I'll try to categorize them

INTRINSIC EFFORT

  • Beyoncé, the Virgo she is, is constantly striving to improve. At the core of it, she is a very talented artist but that is not what makes someone stay in the public consciousness. Instead, she knows how to continually push her artistry so she is exhibiting different parts of it, or exhibiting it in different ways. This keeps her talent and the appraisal of her talent ever relevant.
  • The surprise release, the visual album, the no visuals, the medleys, the cultural commentary, the jaw-dropping diary moment of Lemonade, etc. all show she's forging her own path and challenging herself, first and foremost

COMMERCIALITY

  • For however boundary-pushing, risk-taking, and self-sabotaging she can be, she still remains a commercial artist, one that is able to go beyond the status quo while still being digestible (to most). Her beauty, her sheen, her glamour and taste all allows a big amount of people to take and keep interest in her. It's different from Solange, who doesn't wholly make super different music than Beyoncé (she never really has), but still feels like a less commercial artist either in how she presents herself, or the subtle differences that make a song radio-ready.
  • Her wide appeal, mixed with the "commercial" (in terms of editorial space) personal life, has meant that she has stayed top of mind, while also not giving the public enough that they burn out from the drama (like let's say, The Kardashians).

EVOLUTION NOT REINVENTION

  • Unlike the Madonna route, which many of Beyoncé's peers have tried, where you reinvent yourself every era to refresh your brand and add newness to it, Beyoncé has got the evolution route, where she mainly stays the same Beyoncé, with mainly the same look (more or less) but tilted in another direction so she adds more to her repertoire. Her making a country album isjust her expressing a different facet of herself (her country lineage). It's not a costume to have fun with or one she's never worn before. Her using FEMINIST behind her 2013 wasn't a reinvention into a feminist-figure, it's something she's always been doing since the 1990s but fully synthesized in 2013. Her making a dance record wasn't her suddenly using club aesthetic, it was in honour and inspiration of the kind of songs her Uncle showed her as a kid, which helped shape her worldview. This evolutionary process feels more natural and thus any missteps (like say, an EVERYTHING IS LOVE which again wasn't a reinvention as she'd been rapping all her career) are easily forgotten or forgiven in the context of it mattering to her relevance, whereas reinventing yourself and flopping is a bit more of an embarrassment.

There's also LEGACY but that is a lesser role, since many people have legacies, but for her, as she continues to stay relevant her legacy is added to, and so her name carries a multiplied weight. You don't really need to know or even have been around for her early eras but the weight of her career with the weight of the moment she provides makes her remain at the centre of pop culture.

She has a really good PR team that has convinced people if they don't fall in line then they're racist lol. If you go outside for once and talk to people on the street, you'll see she's not as popular as the media and her PR team want you to think.

Or better yet, look at her current album sales and streaming. Even Katy Perry has more albums charting on the Hot 200 than Beyonce does. :deadbanana:

But also I like her and think she deserves the praise. I just wish she'd allow it to come naturally instead of forcing it.

It's cos of this commercial mindset that's why Ur main fave had to go back to reheating her old nachos to find relevance, everything y'all ever talk about is streaming this, sales that. That's why Ur fave has to come up with an excuse as why she isn't touring stadiums(which we all know she can to an extent), but she just has to explained to y'all to keep Ur egos intact:rip:

There is nothing wrong with Beyonce's streams or sales.

Like I mentioned, her albums have numerous multiplatinum certifications so what is the issue?

She carved a place for herself in the music industry that nobody that came after her managed to fill. In other words, nobody is doing what she does - and when they do try, they fail

I think what you mean is she's really good at creating music that sparks conversations and acts as a cultural litmus test that reveals if you might have racist tendancies or not. For example, if you were mad that Beyoncé performed at the CMAs in 2016 but didn't have anything to say when Justin Timberlake or Megan Trainor performed at the same event the two years prior, you might be racist, because what's the difference between Beyoncé, Megan and Justin where only one of them received major backlash? No PR, no media person had to highlight that. People can and did watch the reactions in real time, many of which were overtly racist.

Furthermore,

Neither the media nor especially her PR spend much time discussing Beyoncé's in terms of popularity. In fact, it's almost the opposite. TV shows were inaccurately reporting the COWBOY CARTER TOUR was struggling to sell out, when in reality it was the second biggest selling world tour of her career (while being the shortest tour of her career, too).

Implying there's a ploy to have her appear more popular than she actually is a bit of a stretch. What you probably identify is the gap between the way people hold her in a high esteem and the way people stream/consume her music (25+ years into her career). The two are not necessarily related.

If you asked the same people on the street who is a more impressive, impactful or important artist between Katy and Beyoncé, do you think they would say Katy? And would they even know how many albums she has charting at the moment? I doubt it because 1) Katy isn't nearly as respected an artist as Beyoncé and 2) people on the street are not keeping up to date with the Billboard 200.
