Did Dua lose her seat at the MPG table?

Featured Replies

Future Nostalgia was a big era. Grammy BPVA, global smash hits, remix albums and deluxes galore.

But Radical Optimism (in case you forgot, the 2024 follow-up) failed to live up to expectations. No big hits. No acclaim. No awards. Lost at sea with the dolphins as Sabrina, Billie, Charli and Chappell dominated 2024.

Does Dua still have a placemat at the main pop girls table, or is she getting escorted back down to her asylum cell with fellow Albanian sistren Bebe, Rita and Ava?

  • She was never part of it, with just one (payolad) era. We were all there seeing the Spotify reach of her songs and we all knew the budget would eventually run out.

  • She never really had a seat, she was just kinda standing slightly behind and to the left of the table for a little bit.

  • No. She is selling out stadiums. Her last album, has two songs with +700m streams on spotify. thats a main pop girl. Gaga is doing amazing, Abracadabra has 550m on spotify, doing arenas (x4)

We'll see, the RO tour is doing much better than FN, and imo it's better than her previous.

I mean I know a lot of people will be here for her next era if it comes quickly!

Right, thats why she is selling out STADIUMS :ahh:

In terms of streams, she's doing better than some MPGs some of y'all are claiming are 2nd to Taylor Swift.

Ill be so real i loveee her sm but her toronto show is coming up and i got a notification for cheap tickets and i sadly opted out only bc i saw the future nostalgia tour and this tour looks slightly like a rehash and i didnt looveeee RO? idk :( i love her though and i hope era 4 is amazing

the videos this past year show otherwise tho.....

I mean, RO was a bomb but she still has a dedicated fanbase based off her tour. She can smash again with the right music...

Yes, she's been away on vacation for so long that they had to give the seat to Addison Rae.

No at all

Radical Optimism did overall great.

Houdini & Training Season end up being big singles.

If we take the Lady Gaga route but unstitch a bigger era into two pieces (Dua Lipa + Complete Edition EP  or Future Nostalgia + Moonlight Edition) .... Radical Optimism was technically her weathering the Fourth Album curse. We'll see what the next album is like. :coffee2:

No shade to Dua but I think calling her a MPG after one huge era is a bit premature. I mean anyone can have a couple big albums. Don't you need to prove some staying power before you get that label?

I would say Billie has earned that title after 3 huge albums across 8 years. Everyone else you mentioned in the OP I think still has a bit more to prove.

Sabrina replaced her.

Katy -> Dua -> Sabrina

Can't wait until Sabrina gets replaced bc she's lowkey the worst of the three (music wise)

Yeah i think so, she flopped before she could really solidify herself.

So she didn't reach the point of someone like Katy, who regardless of how many bombs she put out, still has wide GP recognition.

Yes but looking at how she treated the Radical Optimism era I don't think she cares enough about that to try and recover the level she once had, she'll probably just end up releasing one album every 3-4 years with two modest sized hits, and at least she ended up with enough GP appeal to sell out tours and make some money to spend most of the year on vacation
