Going solo after being in a successful group must be such a popularity shock, with the exception of Spice Girls and Cheryl. Like wdym she was breaking Spice Girls records with LM and now she's opening for someone who broke through last year?

I'm talking UK only.

Quite frankly in the UK market this should probably be the other way round. Sure Chappell's 3 hits might have sold more in this territory but JADE has a larger core audience both pre-established and new fans.  But don't worry Jade; I once saw RhiRhi open for the Pussycat Dolls.

This is why she's going to be a success. So many group-to-solo artists aren't willing to put the work in establishing themselves individually and are used to a certain level of success. Jade doesn't have an ego and is willing to do support slots and keep building a fanbase.

It's insane to me that some people don't see how this is a smart move. Jade isn't stupid, she sees herself as a new artist solo and… it's a no brainer how much bigger Chappell is than her popularity-wise, so I honestly don't understand the confusion?

Opening for someone doesn't necessarily mean that your popularity has declined though, management and booking agents often just see it as a way to market to a new audience. It can be more of a tactical move rather than a downgrade.

 

Even Cheryl supported the Black Eyed Peas on tour after GA split and her solo career was already a success by that point, she was inarguably even more famous than the Black Eyed Peas in the UK where she supported them (+Europe).

 

It's also about establishing yourself as a live solo act in the hopes of selling tickets to your future live shows to people who aren't already in your core fanbase.

 

 

I think this is great for her.

This is why group members going solo almost never last, Jade understands it's a reset and has to work her way up again. The likes of Bey, Robbie or Harry, the ones that did succeed, worked their asses off in movies, covers, collabs and endless festival gigs surrounding their debuts. She doesn't have a big TV gig available like Cheryl or else she probably would've done that.

Chappell's got some festival dates in Edinburgh in August and there's special guests still to be announced, do we think there's a possibility that Jade might be one of them? She's been interacting with Chappell a lot, lately
