there are certain things you just cannot compromise if you truly believe in them

Define different?

Me, a leftist, dating a liberal? Sure. Have done many times.

Conservatives? That's a hard pass from me.

It honestly depends on how different. I don't think I'd want to date someone who agrees with me on everything, but obviously someone whose political position is the polar opposite of mine isn't going to work either.

i don't mind disagreeing on some smaller more niche things and think there's scope to have healthy discussion, if you're dating someone with the intent to marry then chances are both your politics are going to go through some changes and developments throughout your life . where i would draw the line is if they're pretty extremist with their views or their views are part of whats contributing to the loss of people's human rights

It depends on what you mean by different like me dating a maga or a gay for Trump? Never, I'd rather eat coal.

Many hold their views so strong they're not able to compromise or even meet them halfway. Casual sex can't make me forget that you really believe we don't deserve to live. This is crazy contradictory, and very common.

Nuance matters. I may not change my views, but depending on how big the differences are, there are ways to find common ground.

But in all honesty, I just **** around with muscular and shaved men. Don't care about relationships one bit.

yes, my partner is more centre/centre-left while I'm more on the left

i actually kinda prefer it? it's nice that he has different opinions and we can have thoughtful conversations, i don't need a yes-man.

i wouldn't date a conservative though, i like diversity of opinions only up to a point. especially in 2025 i feel like most conservatives are just braindead and their entire worldview is based around 'alternative facts', no way i could deal with that in a relationship. like meeting an actually thoughtful conservative is so rare nowadays :rip:

Probably not... I don't really like talking about politics in general, but I do appreciate someone who votes, as I always do that.

I would date someone with different politics, yes. It can be hot and make for some interesting discussions, but I'd also consistently challenge their opinions.

NO

(as a Canadian) I don't consider liberal vs green vs NDP to really be that different politics wise. it would be more any of those vs conservative that's a no no

Having different politics isn't the issue. The issue is when someone makes politics their entire personality. Even if you have the same political beliefs, if that's all the person talks about, then it can be insufferable. Politics should rarely be talked about in relationships, in general. It's not interesting. It's not sexy. You're not running for office. And you're not a news pundit.

...Vin

My boyfriend and I have vastly different politics on how billionaires should be killed.  Yet somehow we make it work.

It depends how different we're talking.

If it's complete opposite ends of the political spectrum? Absolutely not. And casual sex is off the table if I'm aware of their politics.

If we disagree on a few things that don't really matter too much in the grand scheme of things? I could look past that. Nothing wrong with a healthy discussion or debate from time to time.

I consider myself far-left, and would date anyone who is center-left to far-left (but not extremist left, looking at a bunch of you guys). 10 years ago I would have said dead center is okay, but now that Nazis are in the White House, sorry, you have to at least identify as somewhat left-leaning.

For casual sex, I'm literally using you as an object and don't care about you, so as long as you aren't an actual Nazi idgaf.

Absolutely. Because I can see past certain agendas. A lot of you can't because you think Republicans are racist.. I'm registered independent and don't mind someone's political views sorry. I just don't

Absolutely not if they are Republican or MAGA.

People here pretending that Republicans aren't basically the MAGA party is sending me. :dies: Anyway, I would never date a Republican it's literally dating someone that agrees with a party that wants to take all of my rights away and as a gay man their own rights away. Who does that? :deadbanana2:Although I would date someone that wasn't very political. Some people just don't care about that stuff and that's understandable.

"Different politics" can mean a lot of different things (liberal x leftist; republican x moderate, etc.).

In the past I wouldn't care as much, but at this age I don't like the idea of giving pleasure to someone who voted/votes for the current Republican party. More flexible with neoliberals/Dems/generally left-leaning people who I don't see eye-to-eye with.

No. I'm afraid we'd fight too much. s:wan:
I'd be open to dating someone who stans different pop girlies though.

Centre left is my absolute limit. I would never date someone on the right.
