The Swiftologist is not that bad

Featured Replies

You may or may not be familiar with the musical commentator Zachary Hourihane, more commonly known as "The Swiftologist". He is most well known for his videos discussing Taylor Swift's music and career, but he reviews and discusses several other artist's work.

I have to say I initially wrote him off as a crazy Swiftie, but a few of his videos started appearing on my fyp and I realised he's just another lover of pop culture, like a lot of us on here. A lot of his takes are very detailed and nuanced. Yes occasionally he does let the stan goggles blind him when he's talking about Taylor, but honestly his stuff about other artists is far more interesting. What truly made me switch on him was his video where he was praising L.A.M.B. by Gwen Stefani.

I think a lot of the hate he receives is rooted in homophobia ("why does he speak like that?" comments) and the aforementioned assumption that he's a crazy stan (ironically coming from other stans).

Anyway I'm not really sure what the point of this thread is, I just wanted to share my thoughts

I dont care to listen to people babble on for 1 hr and 30 mins If im being honest. I could watch a movie or something entertaining

People hate on him constantly but he's sort of what I picture the average ATRLer to be/sound like in real life.

And people will dunk on him for the name but a lot of his takes are actually fairly measured and reasonable.

His takes are actually pretty nuanced, but the stan world is so brain-rotted and operates on surface-level outrage and groupthink, so they either can't grasp what he's saying or don't even bother watching his videos in the first place outside of a few viral clips.

Some cupcake Swifties hate him because he dares to criticize Taylor here and there, and the non-Swiftie stans hate him because he's a Swiftie.

It's kind of a catch-22 and the loudest ones are often the most clueless.

He just hates everyone

He doesn't though? The most recent video I saw of his was reviewing Glastonbury performances and he praised almost everyone apart from Gracie

I just don't have the cognitive ability to comprehend anything deep and nuanced

Like if it's not Trisha Paytas or Tana Mongeau level of speech, I zone out

Girl I'm admitting I'm dumb what else u want from me

Yeah I think a lot of the hate for him is like homophobia/femmephobia especially from other gays.

I will say I don't always agree with his takes but also they aren't usually unreasonable. Like he'll express stuff harshly but at least it's usually a well thought out opinion.

He looks and speaks like my English teacher who was a nightmarish old lady, so I can't watch anything of his.

I don't like how with basically everything he says he needs to add a component of being brash or even blatantly rude sometimes. But it's good he doesn't seem to follow bandwagon opinions and stands behind what he says. He has strong opinions and substantiates his arguments well.

But you know I only watched one podcast of his. Idk how he is now.

it's not the opinions for me, it's the face

The cupcakes hate him because he speaks truth most of the time (except for his song rankings).

I mean he said HMH&S was a flop album (bad album) while saying TTPD was a good album, so you know he does heavy drugs.

And he was right :clap3:

He is incapable of criticism or opposition to his opinions. Even if you respectfully bring up a different perspective in the comments, he gets catty and mean for no reason. A menace to society.

I watched his Katy Perry career retrospective video and I gotta say his titles and thumbnails are clickbait. I was expecting pure stan brainrot yet it was very researched and balanced. I gotta give him props for that even though he is a swiftie church pastor. His Taylor Swift related content creeped me out.

y'all pretty much nailed it :clap3:

I refuse to trust the opinion of someone who found Houdini boring :michael:

He says exactly what's on his mind and people get upset when he doesn't praise their fave. It's just his opinion :gaycat5:

The casual homophobia in here also is not cute s:wan:
