How should Doechii sustain her momentum post "Anxiety"?

Featured Replies

The beautiful and talented Doechii has had a phenomenal year so far in 2025.

In late 2024 and early 2025, her hit "Denial Is a River" went viral on TikTok after a run of incredible performances at The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, NPR's Tiny Desk, and most notably, the GRAMMYs. After her GRAMMY win for Best Rap Album, "Denial Is A River" soared on the Hot 100 and Spotify charts, becoming her highest-peaking hit so far.

Then in March of this year, her 2019 song "Anxiety" blew up on TikTok. It was originally just a non-commercial release on YouTube, but it gained traction after being sampled by Sleepy Hallow in 2023. Doechii did seize on the momentum and officially released her solo version as a single. It ended up hitting the top 10 on the Hot 100 and was praised by pop fans, though it got mixed reactions from hip-hop audiences. Her biggest hit to date.

Now that "Anxiety" isn't really charting like that anymore, people like me are wondering: what should Doechii do next? I really am a fan of hers but it does kinda feel like her hype is cooling down.

Should she go more traditional hip-hop? Try a full-on pop crossover? Drop a big collab?

She needs to drop an album next. I'm sure people want a follow up to her mixtape. That's the reason she gained traction anyway.

That album announcement needs to come next. Nothing else. At least a real first single. Get back to the mixtape quality.

Anxiety already feels kinda forgotten idk it peaked in March, faced a lot of backlash and then just vanished :rip: It also does not seem to have hurt her at all, whatever she releases next will still be highly anticipated :michael:

Didn't it leave the top 200 on Spotify already? Kinda tragic to leave in only a few months.

She should've moved on already with a cute remix of Slide ft SZA + a high budget music video :chick1:

By avoiding Anxiety entirely. Go the Denial route instead, real story telling with great performances, she's an artist not an instagram reel meme.

She should release a song called "Depression" next, and then follow up 2 months later with "Schizophrenia" and an album announcement. I think releasing a project that discusses mental health and the complexity of the human mind will cement her as a true force on the scene

stop chasing tiktok viral hits, focus on her own craft (which she's good at anyways), drop some new songs and do some features, do a little festival run here and there, and drop that damn album already :rip:

drop some songs back to back followed up with the album

album release date should hopefully be coming soon

Dropping the album all at once imo.

Idk if Doechii can already pull something like that off. She definitely needs to put some singles out first to create buzz. Only big artists like Justin, Taylor, Bey do this approach.

Give us another song like

she should focus on releasing a unique body of work and chase acclaim. even if it "flops", building a fan base that respects your work and reversing the lizzo'd narrative following her after anxiety will be worth it in the long run.

I think she's taking too long and it is risky given how polarizing "Anxiety" is. She should move on by yesterday.

She should've released a new single already, with another one coming later in the year and the debut album in early 2026
