ABBA is truly the best band of all time. Did you know Mamma Mia the musical had made over $4B in ticket sales? And the movies have made over $1B of course.

Wow, had no idea their recurrent streams are so good, but it's much deserved. They created the blueprint for our girlies and we don't talk about it enough.

To be fair, they've done a great job of keeping their music in the public sphere. ABBA Gold, writing a musical with a film franchise + ABBA voyage has done wonders for helping new generations to discover their music and keep their songs on the radio.

You definitely have to WORK for your legacy. Like how Queen did a whole movie and their catalogue streams like a 2010s debut band. Elton John too. But your hits must also have been big and household enough in the first place.

Many 70s and 80s giants stream very well, and are continue to grow with Spotify getting bigger in different parts of the world. THAT is what having classic songs mean.

 

"Released before the streaming era" is an excuse for stans of forgotten local has beens who lack true global classics I have to fear!
