Something I've noticed from the newer generation of pop girls is how their albums have no featured artists. Billie, Olivia, Sabrina (since Emails), Chappell, Tate, Dua's last two albums, none of them have any featured artists on the standard editions. Even Dua's debut only has one feature and Gracie only has one feature on her most recent album.

 

The odd part is that they're not opposed to doing collaborations, they just don't want these collabs on their albums. Though having said that I don't think Chappell or Olivia have ever collabed with another artist (unless you could Chappell's BGVs on a bunch of GUTS tracks or the High School Musical songs).

 

Why do you think pop girls have stopped having features on their albums? Do you prefer fully solo albums or do you miss the collabs?

Probably an overcorrection from how many pop girls relied on features in the late 2010s. 

90% of features are pointless and terrible, hope that helps!

 

This is not new is it? Lorde didn't have a featured artist on standard editions of her albums until her third album, then none on her fourth album.

I'd be surprised if she was the only one back then.

I don't remember any, could be wrong I guess, but to answer the question, I prefer solo albums.

Authenticity probably is my guess.

 

A lot of music fans require artists these days to write their own song, have a hand in production, interact with them personally on social media etc. If they collab too much, it may seem like they're leeching off other artists for success and don't have anything to say for themselves.

 

Artists like young Britney, Selena Gomez, early stage Ariana, Rihanna, and even Beyoncé, I feel would have a harder time succeeding in the modern day because they didn't have as much of a hand in their music. They just sung what the songwriters put down. I believe the newer girls are avoiding that heavily with how finicky the GP is now.

Why are you only counting standard editions? 

 

Dua's debut album has six songs which are collaborations with other artists and her second album has five songs which are collabs. 

Having grown up at a point when features were the exception, rather than an expectation, I view this as a trend that lasted for a long time that is finally going back, out of fashion and things reverting back to how they once were.

 

I don't Stan one artist in-particular (even though I have stanned MANY artists/ groups from the beginning of their careers), but from reading many threads, I know that many of you do only Stan one artist.

 

On that basis, I assume it is pleasing to many of you that "annoying" other girls, who you have never been a fan off, are finally not intruding upon the vocals of the music that primarily belongs to those artist's you each individually Stan?

 

I assume there have been situations where someone you Stan, have got someone on their single (or vice versa) and the other artist has been someone you can't actually stand?

they're trying to prove themselves as artists worth caring about

 

also money is so much tighter these days. in 2000s and partially the 2010s, there was massive money to be made for labels. with the streaming era there is less revenue to go around, labels don't want to split it any further than they have to.

Are they? Good for them! because all of these quick little singles featuring other artists that some people do a lot (but I'm not gonna name names, Charli xcx & Miley) are very tired. 

 

Duets for a quick little hit are rarely memorable, rarely good, rarely substantial. So I respect the younger divas not resorting to that for some quick exposure. 

 

Even if it's the same soulless novelty music, are least make it your own, you know? 

Probably cause it's an additional cost for them to hire a rent a rapper or something

I guess they avoid backlash when the featured artist gets cancelled.

I'm sure had they debuted in today's world they just would've just been marketed differently.

I completely forgot there were collabs on SCTW. Her first two albums are fully solo which is what I was thinking of
