Both Taylor and Travis are creating environment for unnecessary overconsumption (which will end up in a landfill in 5 years) for the sake of monetization. There's really no reason for owning 10 different physical variants of an album in a single household.

Olivia: 302,000 album-equivalent units and 150,000 in pure sales

Travis is doing it worse since he is selling physical media at a loss ($15.99 for a vinyl is clearly too cheap) whereas Taylor sells all her variants for full price to profit for the business. Swifties can afford it and they are willing and able to pay.

 

Another example of this is Garth Brooks' vinyl reissue a few years ago. All the vinyl were like $11.99 which is way too cheap. I've seen them at discount stores for $7 or so before.

Taylor is literally a PRO with this. Literally lying about 48h exclusivity every other day of her 40+ variants to create FOMO. 

And no, billboard will not react as long as the one manipulating is american sweetheart.
