is Billboard gonna do anything about Taylor Swift & Travis Scott?

Featured Replies

update: ATRL makes a great case for Taylor Swift as well

Travis Scott's first week schemes are the worst and every time the rules change, he adapts like a shapeshifter.

his last single "4x4" went #1-OUT

his last 2 albums sold 350k and 250k and it was all bundles.

just ban this guy from the charts. he's not selling music. he's selling clothes.

i don't have a problem with him bundling merch, but i have a problem with the $5 vinyls he did for utopia and the way the vinyls for this album have like 7 songs

billboard did change the rules regarding deluxe editions after the whole sabrina vs travis thing

Edit: I don't agree with this entire title change and thus I'm removing my post.

He's annoying as **** but 1) there will always be grey areas in the rules or something you can do to circumvent them and 2) who cares, the album will be out of the charts in literally 7 days.

So...if your favorite did exactly this, it would be okay, right?

Yeah that's what I thought.

because when u look back at 2024 for best first week selling hip hop album.

its gonna say travis scott over kendrick lamar (who owned the year in hip hop)

its not accurate

what billboard could do is cap the bundles. so if u sell 60k in streams, u max out at 60k with bundles, not more. cuz theres no way ur bundles are supposed to sell 180k

We'll see if the article is delayed today. Billboard will probably detuct some but it'll still be enough for #1.

i used her as the example for what billboard should enforce. her streams and bundles are even. travis scott sells 3x-4x more in bundles

I mean... he did start as a fraud

his ex-manager literally confirmed it, with the stream-bots and all..

I mean... some people resort to heavy paid publicity, queer baiting, payola, bribing award shows, showing their crotch on the album cover more than once... or even worse things, like making their personal relationships a public circus.

So I think Travis having a clothing line isn't that bad. Besides, he has some good music, not everybody has that.

Which bundles?

No one uses bundles anymore... if she did she would be doing 5M first week.

To my knowledge, Beyonce is the only pop girl who is still using bundles after 2020.

The difference is Taylor's albums don't go #1 - OUT and she's been opening with 1 million since 2010 :michael:

She's still a chart manipulator (even when she doesn't need it)

They have to let a couple others cheat the system so they can pretend they dont have a taylor bias

The only real solution to this is to de-emphasise 1-week sales among fans and instead focus on longer term results, 1-month or even more, and what is organic consumption and what is not will straighten itself out.

Payola is officially illegal. The other things are irrelevant to what a chart organisation can enforce.

No shade but that's a metric nobody cares about in the year 2025 tbh
