  • doing this now there's evidence of the younger generations skewing right-wing lol

  • Just because Wikipedia says they are centre-left doesn't mean it's true in reality. Especially not right now.

  • As a high school teacher I teach dozens of 16 year olds and I think they should be able to choose to vote. Yes many are dumb and immature but so are certain 79 year old heads of state. I have many yea

That generation is very conservative we're screwed if more countries start doing this.

these rats only approved this because they know it will benefit the right.

Vote rights should be at the same age as the minimum age driving regulations, if you can drive a car and have the responsibility of other's life you can vote tbh

2029 is going to be crazy with votes split across six parties

I wouldn't be surprised if Reform is the largest party with <30% and Labour and the Tories only scrape <20% each

I was about to say. Democrats aren't really left leaning in the US either when it comes to policy. They're more center like you said.

As if those young ppl will vote unless their parents forcing them to do so. When i was that age I couldn't care less about politics.

lol

So the ongoing propaganda being sewed into the younger generations will work as planned... and then they give them the power to exercise their vote based on said bullshit the government and powers that be are sewing daily... the UK is a ******* **** hole, and I live here

I really wouldn't describe the current Labour Party as centre-left… at all.

That being said I've advocated for this change for years so I'm totally behind it.

Ain't nobody gonna go and vote

I dont doubt most young leftist and "centrists" sure won't go vote, but the nazi-lites sure ******* will

I'm sorry but this is a terrible idea. 16 year olds are KIDS.

Young people as is already don't vote, lbr the only 16 and 17 year olds who would vote are the ones civically minded who would be more educated than the average voter anyway

I mean, more people voting for Taylor Swift next election I guess

teenagers are actively participating in politics... this is how an extreme right winger won in my country.

Erm the party in government is the Labour Party (clue's in the title). If there are lots of baby Faragists ( God help us!) it's hardly in Labour's interest to introduce it now is it?

Why? This makes no sense.

The argument for years has essentially been " no taxation without representation". 16/17 years old can work, would have to pay income tax but can't vote.

Not sure I agree with that thinking for people this young but that's the basic argument.

That'd be nice but there's no way of knowing that. Like they could all probably end up voting as some part of a meme or something, if that happened. This is crazy to me.

You're not allowed to drink or drive but you can help tip an election? :rip: Make it make sense

An excellent and long overdue decision :clap3:If old crippled pensioners that can barely look after themselves are allowed to vote then I see no reason to exclude younger people when the decisions made by the government are going to impact them the most in the long run
