Nobody knows, it's kind of messy. Naturally with the media picking up on this, you will have more people will look at the sky and point at literal planes and try to make something it's not. 

 

But what is real is that there's are drones being spotted across the country, the FBI are left out of the loop and are as dumbfounded as all of us, the White House have claimed that they are manned aircraft that aren't from a foreign adversary, however New Jersey lawmakers have said otherwise and that they're not being truthful. It could be the US, but it doesn't make sense for these to be from the US military considering it's also been spotted above UK military bases. Anyway, the lack of transparency is a problem. If these happen to be from the enemy, this is a catastrophic failure of the US defense and could possibly ignite an act of war. I doubt they would want to admit to that.

Not sure how credible but either testing for or actual use of dirty bomb/WMD seeking drones. Either the government is testing its ability to sweep large areas for them or there is credible threat that a foreign adversary smuggled in a nuke / dirty bomb into our country and/or an American nuke was lost or damaged during transport. If this were the case the government would not say anything to avoid mass panic but that still doesn't explain the sightings of these around the world right now, despite the east coast being a hotspot.
