Kern Posted 13 hours ago Posted 13 hours ago So I'm selling my Steam Deck because I kinda hate it and I need a hardware to play games that are not on the Switch My laptop is 3 years old and it aged like milk so I'm debating wheter I should just get a new gaming laptop. I read some stuff online about it and it seems like laptops are not the greatest way to play games mainly because of overheating after some time and jet engine sound. There is also problem with faulty design and laptops are harder to fix. So I'm asking people here who use gaming laptops how is their experience especially after a while The other alternative I thought about is PS5 and monitor because that would be cheaper but I won't be able to use it other way and move around And PC is not an option
ChooseyLover Posted 13 hours ago Posted 13 hours ago (edited) My experience with laptops has always been pretty bad. Sure, they weren't the newest thing on the market but my first laptop lasted two years with heavy use (videogames) and my second laptop was fully used for uni and office word and it already has battery issues and I got it like two or three years ago... I've been in your position and went with PS5. Paying for playing online is a total scam and I wish I had a gaming PC to play The Sims with 484948944GB of custom content or using mods in some other games, but I guess I'm satisfied overall. Mine weren't gaming laptops, so take this with a pinch of salt. I really think these laptop issues apply to all laptops in general though. Edited 12 hours ago by ChooseyLover

Johnny Jacobs Posted 12 hours ago Posted 12 hours ago (edited) As someone who also has a 3 year old "gaming" laptop. It sucked from the get go. I don't know if it's the model i took, but I'm not happy. My boyfriend got a ps5. The DIFFERENCE. I recommend. Edited 12 hours ago by Johnny Jacobs
liam13 Posted 12 hours ago Posted 12 hours ago if you don't play aaa game then gaming laptop is an overkill. if you do, gaming laptop is underwhelming, depends on your budget. a kinda decent gaming laptop in my country is as expensive as a really good gaming pc. i had one for 6 years and when the gaming experience was bad (it could play aaa games with low fps) compared to my current setup, it was also hot asf running red dead redemption 2 with 23 fps a ps5 or a pc is your best friend. still recommend a pc tho cuz of piracy contents from modding community

EtherealCat Posted 12 hours ago Posted 12 hours ago computer makes more sense but i like sitting in different places so im happy with it, the price was upsetting but i use it all the time so i feel like its paid for itself already
simplywohoo Posted 12 hours ago Posted 12 hours ago Yes, they are more expensive, but the mobility is worth it and nowadays the graphic cards are almost as good as the ones used for towers
smartalek22 Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago (edited) A high spec gaming laptop can be much faster than a PS5, despite what others say. A gaming laptop with at least an RTX4070 laptop GPU (with decent power limits) is going to beat the PS5, which is about as fast as a 3060 desktop. If you don't need a laptop, a custom desktop PC with at least a desktop RTX4070 or RX7800 will completely obliterate any console. The console stans here are tripping. For laptops, I can recommend Lenovo Legion Pro 7 with RTX4080. Edited 11 hours ago by smartalek22
kellebrity98 Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago (edited) i have an Acer Nitro gaming laptop, i bought a laptop cooler for it, i'm fine with it, I mostly play CS2 with a lot of mods and with high quality settings Edited 11 hours ago by kellebrity98
Illuminati Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago If a PC is not an option I think a laptop is still a little more practical than a PS5 cause you can literally use it for anything, work, studying, gaming etc. Just look for some recommendations online to get the most out of what you pay. If you can wait till you move, a PC would be best because you can find some good online guides on the best parts for the price range and it will end up being better than a laptop for the same price. 2
RideOrDie Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago ASUS G14 or G16 Lenovo Legion 7i these are the best gaming laptops and yes they are worth it, i recently got the G16 (best speakers, keyboard, trackpad, gorgeous top of the line screen, 8-10 hour battery life etc.) and I couldn't be happier. any other brand you might find yourself disappointed or with problems!
swifthino Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago im also selling my steam deck lolololol but as other users said already, gaming laptop is not worth it, you should just wait around for gaming pc as it's gonna be better for the same price what games do you play/plan on playing?
MattieB Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago If you're on a budget, yes I'm using MSI GF63 THIN 11UC RTX 3050

I bought Steam Deck because I needed hardware to play Talos Principle 2 and it runs like **** Also one button doesn't work anymore and I got so annoyed with reading about OLED to the point it made me hate having LCD. But this is the game I mostly wanted to play 1
Yakult Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago I'd get PS5 + monitor. I also have a high spec MacBook I play Sims 2/3/4 on, but it's not worth it unless you're using it for work/creative.
Suilen Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago After two gaming laptops I'm saving up to build a PC. My main issue is that laptop GPUs tend to be weaker than their PC counterparts, like mine had half the memory (4GB vs 8GB), and it makes all the difference for some games. And while I never had an overheating issue, sometimes it got so hot it burned my fingers, though it could be a design flaw. Still, while I'm over them, I think that it's possible to find an optimal one for HD gaming, but it might be costly. I believe my friend got his at like 900 euros.

JO1s Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago (edited) No, you use a laptop outside your house for gaming way less than you think you would. Your much better going with a desktop for gaming Edited 10 hours ago by JO1s 1
Hexchromatica Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago the intel chips absolutely suck now compared to silicon chips so try not to get a power hungry intel processor that will just drain your battery and heat up
Heldenzeit Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago I had a gaming laptop years ago and it basically was a hand burning device. This mfer got so hot. Changed to a gaming PC later and never looked back.
no_better Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago I would definitely go for a PS5 if PC is not an option. Laptops just shouldn't be used for gaming in my opinion
Rep2000 Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago (edited) There's no such thing as a "gaming laptop". It's a scam marketing, since any gamers know how fast the hardwares improve each year, which makes even PCs have to upgrade every 2-3 year to keep up with modern games (which are also plagued with huge storage demand, demanding graphics and performance issue). Any "gaming laptop" would age terribly since you clearly cannot just go out and buy a new graphic card for it and replace it yourself. Just save yourself money and headache with a PS5, it has way more lifespan than any laptop. Edited 9 hours ago by Rep2000 2
