So which of Lainey Wilson or Megan Moroney should have won instead? Because Taylor wasn't even in the running for this award. Or does that not factor into this "everything Beyoncé ever achieves is bought by her" narrative you've deluded yourselves into believing?

Here's the explanation: Taylor Swift wasn't nominated for this award. Beyoncé was and was the most successful of the nominees, therefore won the award. Hope that helps.

Unlike other ceremonies, the Billboard Music Awards are explicitly based solely on chart metrics and intentionally mirror the year-end charts. This thread's question - or perhaps that of why Taylor wasn't nominated for the award at all - arises because this is one of the only times there has ever been a discrepancy between a particular award and the corresponding year-end chart result. That's why I personally think there's a (potentially unpublished) rule behind the scenes requiring an artist to release at least one track eligible for the genre chart in question during the tracking period to be eligible for the overall genre awards; that's the only way this result really lines up with the stated intent of the BBMAs.
