Magic_boXX Posted 12 hours ago Posted 12 hours ago Quote Crabs can feel pain, according to a new study - prompting calls for more humane ways to kill shellfish. Boiling crabs and lobsters alive is a common method of cooking them in the kitchen. But it is time to find less painful alternatives, according to researchers at the University of Gothenburg who made the discovery about how the creatures process pain. Eleftherios Kasiouras, a PhD candidate at the university, found painful stimuli are sent to and processed by a crab's brain, which he said was "just more proof" the animal can feel pain. The study is the first research to show the creatures have a nervous system that can respond to harmful stimuli. https://news.sky.com/story/crabs-feel-pain-scientists-find-prompting-calls-for-more-humane-ways-to-cook-shellfish-13261795 It's a common misconception that crabs and lobsters scream as you plunge them into boiling water to cook. But even if this myth isn't true, scientists say there is still good reason to avoid this classic kitchen technique. Zoologists from the University of Gothenburg are calling for an immediate ban on boiling crabs alive after making a groundbreaking discovery. The researchers have proven that crabs really can feel pain just like any other animal, meaning that being boiled is likely to be an excruciatingly painful death. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-14127445/scientists-ban-boiling-crabs-study.html 1 1

ChooseyLover Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago Meat eaters still doubting animals feel pain is honestly hilarious. Having nervous system = experiencing pain. 14 1
HïFidelity Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago Fairly obvious report. They are sentient animals… and I say this as someone who occasionally eats my body weight in lobster lol.
Saint James Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago so crabs too felt the pain of Disease's floppage? 11
Illuminati Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago Wbk but the only people who will care about this will be those that didn't need this study to know it. The torture is seen as entertaining and in some cases as part of the presentation. It's kinda the whole point and not just with shellfish 4
Komet Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago Wbk I told one in the aquarium that it's ugly and it hanged itself 1
iiswhoiis_max Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago I eat meat and I hate the thought of cooking any animal alive. Never ate any shellfish tho 3
Thin White Duke Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago Yeah, we can do better. I've been living with the mantra of "eat only what you can kill yourself" and been mostly vegetarian since then, with the occasional fish dish. Never felt better. 2
Aspookykid Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago Sick how people treat lobsters & crabs. And they don't even taste that good

Totami Legend Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago can't believe it took me this long to become vegan / vegetarian 1
Cain Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago Why… would animals not feel pain? We're literally animals like… we come from the same lineage as them, we're literally mammals, we're wired the same way 😭 1
Bloodflowers. Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago Well we need to consume other living things (yes, that includes plants too) since we need their minerals for our bodies to properly function and be alive, but even if you don't get killed, your body will grow older and shut down itself and then other creatures will consume your dead body remainings in order for life to continue evolving and continuing That's the circle of life 1 1 1
byzantium Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago 2 hours ago, Radical Pessimism said: stingrays love to eat crabs and i don't see any anger from you guys. Nowhere in the OP did it mention stingrays capacity for love. Reporting for being off topic. OP: I don't eat meat that is boiled alive. It's never sat right with me. But if your goal is to convince anyone to stop eating meat over this, remember that the plenty of humans are ok with the mass slaughter of other humans so I doubt many would be moved by this.
MonsterJohn Posted 35 minutes ago Posted 35 minutes ago Why it has to be so delicious tho it's their own fault
