MP3 Posted Wednesday at 09:19 PM Posted Wednesday at 09:19 PM Old Town Road with its featuring was a worldwide hit, breaking the record for the most consecutive weeks at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 with 19. It also topped the chart in the major markets like the UK, Germany, Canada, France, Australia, etc. For sure his aesthetic was more mainstream if I can put it that way, but this song and its success should have propelled him and he could have surfed on that momentum. I think the major factor why he didn't break through is probably his next style which was very controversial. But is that it? Are people so not ready to watch an artist doing the same sexual approach as 90% of his straight peers? There's no problem when it's girls and pimps but when it's an attractive gay men doing the same thing it's a dealbreaker? Because no offense, but I can low-key understand the backlash on Sam Smith for exemple, but Nas do the sexual/religous thing with a way more pleasant touch, I mean his videos are so well done and love the gay thing or not, it's interesting to watch. I think it takes a lot of guts doing what he does and he seems so confident doing so that it just show how self-confident he is and normally such a self-confidence attracts a lot of attention. So why he's so stable in his career pattern? Can't believe it's just ''homophobia'' from the general public, because he releases smash songs after smash songs
Popular Post Material Girl Posted Wednesday at 09:24 PM Popular Post Posted Wednesday at 09:24 PM meme songs with no artistic identity beyond being an online troll he had the platform but not the musical talent to make it last, but at least he got a couple hits to pay the rent 36
UnusualBoy Posted Wednesday at 09:31 PM Posted Wednesday at 09:31 PM Because he relied way too much on gimmicks and shock value, after the 3rd time, it became tired. 9 4
Popular Post EtherealCat Posted Wednesday at 09:33 PM Popular Post Posted Wednesday at 09:33 PM he did though? its not like he was a one hit wonder, not everyone is going to have a long career he did well considering that his career was based on memes and trolling 28
TipToe Posted Wednesday at 09:33 PM Posted Wednesday at 09:33 PM I think he got WAY more attention than he deserved tbh, so in a way he broke thru. 4
Dolce Vita Posted Wednesday at 09:41 PM Posted Wednesday at 09:41 PM i kinda like him but he makes music for fortnite streamers no shade 2 6
Gelato Posted Wednesday at 09:41 PM Posted Wednesday at 09:41 PM (edited) building your career on meme songs and controversies means the foundations are shaky to say the least and then trying to abandon that six years in but the music being boring and not good enough on its own means you're gonna start flopping hard Edited Wednesday at 09:41 PM by Gelato 2
Mornings Posted Wednesday at 09:43 PM Posted Wednesday at 09:43 PM (edited) The music is just whatever sounding and looking. There's nothing special. He could write and IG caption that would be just as effective as his last single Edited Wednesday at 09:43 PM by Mornings 1
king_queen Posted Wednesday at 09:44 PM Posted Wednesday at 09:44 PM His talent lies in marketing but he's not a star. He'd be a great A&R rep ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Happylittlepunk Posted Wednesday at 09:45 PM Posted Wednesday at 09:45 PM He got lucky with what he got. The music just needs to be better.
EnigmaticAndroid Posted Wednesday at 09:46 PM Posted Wednesday at 09:46 PM (edited) Lack of talent. There's not much of an artist there for a sustainable career. Edited Wednesday at 09:47 PM by EnigmaticAndroid 1
Mupps Posted Wednesday at 09:46 PM Posted Wednesday at 09:46 PM Give him a catchy song again and some exposure on fortnite and he'll be back. His last few releases have all been meh musically
kellebrity98 Posted Wednesday at 09:52 PM Posted Wednesday at 09:52 PM light again sounds great tho, after star walkin thats the only song that sounds good to me
magazine Posted Wednesday at 10:02 PM Posted Wednesday at 10:02 PM He already did He just didn't continue having hits, like how it happens with 98% of artists 3
ImpressMeMuch Posted Wednesday at 10:08 PM Posted Wednesday at 10:08 PM He made memes his brand memes die hard
Gorjesspazze9 Posted Wednesday at 10:19 PM Posted Wednesday at 10:19 PM For a guy that can't sing or rap, he shouldn't have become as big of an artist as he did i will give him points for being in touch with how social media works and keeping attention. But his artistry has always been overrated. Meme music can only take you so far 3
John Slayne Posted Wednesday at 10:20 PM Posted Wednesday at 10:20 PM (edited) he actually did break through. he released a successful EP and then a debut album with two smash hits. he achieved more than most artists already, unfortunately he wasn't able to maintain it but his career looks bad only in comparison with actual legends and icons. if you compare him to average artists he is 1000x more successful. there's a million soundcloud rappers out there that would murder to have half of what lil nas has Edited Wednesday at 10:21 PM by John Slayne
Album Leak Posted Wednesday at 10:21 PM Posted Wednesday at 10:21 PM He did break through already though. His reign (if you can even call it that) was just shaky and overall short-lived. And that's fine, some artists are just bound to come and go.
Princess Aurora Posted Wednesday at 10:22 PM Posted Wednesday at 10:22 PM He needs to evolve as an artist
Pheromosa Posted Wednesday at 10:24 PM Posted Wednesday at 10:24 PM he already broke through and then some, got a lot farther than the nameless flops this forum creams themselves over 2 1 5
Vroom Vroom Posted Wednesday at 10:27 PM Posted Wednesday at 10:27 PM He has 4 songs with over 1 billion streams. He broke through, but then fell off quick. I honestly really enjoyed the Montero era
Zaynsus Posted Wednesday at 10:30 PM Posted Wednesday at 10:30 PM But he DID break through, he just didn't last.
PoisonPill Posted Wednesday at 10:32 PM Posted Wednesday at 10:32 PM When your primary talent is controversy and gimmicks, your career is on borrowed time once the shock value wears off. But his 2019-2022 run is historic and groundbreaking
Erreur2 La Nature Posted Wednesday at 10:38 PM Posted Wednesday at 10:38 PM This has to be a troll thread, right ? OTR is the biggest song of all-time on the Billboard chart. After that, Lil Nas X got several hits and some of them were big. Industry Baby, Montero, That's what I Want, Panini, Holiday, Star Walkin kinda. People are not really interested in him right now because of many reasons but he UNDOUBTEDLY made it.
