Katy Perry Wants To Be 'More Of A Joni Mitchell' As She Gets Older

"I'll probably turn into more of a Joni Mitchell," Perry said when asked what she wants to do in the future. "As I inch towards my 30s, I think my fourth record will be more of an acoustic guitar album. That's where I started when I was first discovered by Glen Ballard and got my first record deal."

Despite that wish, Perry isn't planning on going full folk singer just yet. "I can't get ahead of myself. I'm still doing the work: I'm a good balance of left and right brain, and to be an artist with a long career, you've got to have both," she said. "One thing John [Mayer] said to me was, 'It's harder maintaining success than finding it.' I've got a few records under my belt, and I still feel like a brand-new artist. People still want that truth to cut through."

Ah yes the first time I heard Bon Appetit, the thing that struck me the most was the strong acoustic guitar motif throughout

I guess her left brain just blacked out or something then

well 143 and Hejira are pretty similar thematically and lyrically

I mean she's kinda right in that neither of them will ever touch the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 ever again.

And Witness is one of the best acoustic guitar albums to date

joni could do teenage dream but katy could never do blue 

Well she's definitely looked at life from both sides now

She did a huge mistake not going the Thinking of you/Simple/Lost route after Witness (although i love smile but she was gonna be a flop anyways so better flop with good songs) 

She is releasing her acoustic album next year, so I don't know. Time will tell. 

I guess she imitated the success (or the lack of it) of Joni's 'Dog Eat Dog'

 

(Though i love that album)
