Phaunzie Posted November 12 Posted November 12 Well, the prof hypothesis has been proven right. So scientifically no lies were said.
BlazingLovatic Posted November 12 Posted November 12 Not the title saying "claims" when it is a literal fact lol

ImpressMeMuch Posted November 12 Posted November 12 anyhow, this is a stupid take like it's obviously true if you hold any agreement with the concept of white privilege... it doesn't discount her work but it's obviously a fact
no_better Posted November 12 Posted November 12 A radical claim made for the sake of contributing to the scholarship
loveisdead9582 Posted November 12 Posted November 12 I mean… she's not technically wrong - especially when she was first starting out. Looking like the small town All-American girl stereotype definitely didn't hurt when she was solely doing country music. I think that by the time she transitioned to pop the talent was what kept the fans and made new ones.
Daddy Posted November 12 Posted November 12 Well, duh. She's the most plain canvas the kids can project themselves onto. That paired with inoffensive pseudo-poetic lyrics is the jackpot. There's a reason 99% of her fans look the same. But every pop girl is some kind of archetype people hold on to. I for example stan her total opposite who's is also a cliche in itself. 1
Kern Posted November 12 Posted November 12 1 hour ago, SupremeGoddess said: Taylor isn't really that great of a songwriter when you compare her to actual songwriters like Joni Mitchell or Carole King or Patti Smith, even more pop oriented artists like Madonna have written much better material Taylor could never write a The Magdalene Laundries or a Mer Girl to save her life What she does do well enough is craft a narrative storytelling-like effect in her lyrics but it's usually all very basic and above the surface. She's just lucky most people (a majority of her stans included) aren't very cultured or clever so they all think her music is some sort of holy ground (reference intended) I'm sorry but this is such a weird take. Joni, Caroline King and Patti Smith were never making pop music and Madonna was always making dance pop music. Taylor Swift does typical guitar singer-songwriter type of pop and she just happens to be very good at making her lyrics appeal to masses and that is not a bad thing - that actually requires wit and is also literally the point of pop music. and I'm not really a Taylor fan but calling her fans not cultured or clever and assuming they don't listen to Joni Mitchell or Madonna's deeper cuts and are not capable of appreciating their lyricism is giving „I'm so special because I know old niche artists like Joni Mitchell or little known songs like Mer Girl unlike Taylor Swift fans who are basic" lol 10
Bey_Rihstan Posted November 12 Posted November 12 Well.. Yes? Only certain sectors of Swifties would disagree. It's not really a bad thing but it is apart of her appeal. Also the fact that she presents as inoffensive, awkward and relatable, has blue eyes and has a modelesque frame. It appeals to the masses It's the same reason why we have so few dark skinned Black female artists that became big stars... and if (IF) they get there, it's only for a few years. They don't "Appeal" to the masses 3

chaklux Posted November 12 Posted November 12 This is true plus her simple girl next door personality with easily digestible/relatae lyrics are largely the reasons she is successful. Most of her fans see themselves in Taylor and believe they could be her. This worked way more in her favour unlike most pop girls that usually have larger than life personalities. She cannot sing and her song writing skills are genuinely overrated. Most of songs comes across like an adult stuck in high school kind of love. They lack that kind of maturity you will appreciate in Mariah, Celine, Whitney or even Adele's lyrics. 1

Blade Runner Posted November 12 Posted November 12 And Beyoncé because she's hot/pretty. Rihanna because she's light skin. It's the entertainment industry.
Kimi Posted November 12 Posted November 12 well duh, everything she said is like...duh? not even yes... duh. 1
CottageHore Posted November 12 Posted November 12 She's a great marketer and business woman. She's a great songwriter some days and other times not very good. Other than that, she's just a palatable white (billionaire) woman who uses her privilege to benefit her. It's nothing worth trying to deny because truth is truth 2
