NEX Posted October 14 Posted October 14 22 minutes ago, kellebrity98 said: vegan or plant "milks", "meats" are way too high priced in my country This is genuinely gross. I tend to get oat milk, but when you see $8 prices for a tiny (less than 1L) bottle of oat milk that only has 3 ingredients (oats, water, salt) you start to wonder what they are charging you for. Oats are dirt cheap and doesn't cost much to extract flavourful liquid out of them. Water component of it is almost free and so is salt. It's packaged in a plastic or paper bottle which is dirt cheap. So what are you charging 8$ for when it cost you less than 20/30 cents to produce it??? 1

Sombre Posted October 14 Posted October 14 Well yes, we all should eat less meat and more plant-based meals, it's healthier for us and better for the environment. Eating meat is still normal, sorry. What's not normal is how much we've grown to be dependent on meat in our meals, though. 4 2
Last Boy on Earth Posted October 14 Posted October 14 (edited) the girls getting sodefensive and making jokes about this like 10 year olds trina be edgy because they don't have the range of creating a meal without an innocent being on it... It's so embarassing Edited October 14 by Last Boy on Earth 13
Afterglow Posted October 14 Posted October 14 (edited) Vegan food is so expensive. It's almost a scam. I eat both. Edited October 14 by Afterglow

Sombre Posted October 14 Posted October 14 (edited) Also +1 to vegan alternatives when it comes to pricing. Here 1L of cow milk costs $1.5, whereas nut milk starts at $6-7 and if you want anything good, say a good rich coconut milk, that's gonna set you back $8. Same thing goes for meat alternatives like Beyond minced meat or chicken. Amid the inflation we're in and my salary only diminishing in purchasing power, I cannot reason paying a premium for plant-based food. Spoiler It's sad really cause grains are cheap, and I love a good lentil burger patty or a mushroom chicken-like patty. But the inconvenience of the plant-based diet is insane for many unless you're rich and can excuse paying 5-6x the price for the vegan alternative. Edited October 14 by Sombre 2

LOTF Posted October 14 Posted October 14 (edited) If all the people who consume meat were to start consuming plant-based foods in literally the same way they consume meat, wouldn't that be just as detrimental if not worse? My point being that we should focus on the way food is consumed (and produced and advertised) vs what is actually being consumed Edited October 14 by LOTF 1

I tried to switch from Steak to plant based Beyond Steak, the plant based was nearly $14 dollars for a small freezer bag, double what I paid for the actual meat brand from the deli counter. Likewise with egg alternatives. I can get an entire 12 pack of eggs for about $3... the plant base alternative costed me nearly $10 for 4 'eggs'. It isn't practical. 1

The world is going to hell one way or another, we are really beyond the point of saving. The only thing we can do is just not reproduce so less humans will be around to suffer the consequences.

Not so much when you're mass farming 78 billion animals a year. 140,000 chickens are slaughtered every minute. It's pretty insane 4
Pendulum Posted October 14 Posted October 14 okay? maybe degentrify veganism, make it more affordable and accessible, and then we can talk about it 1
