Kings proved me wrong, slay coldplay slay :clap3:

Spoiler

Although their streaming numbers are abysmal and the second week drop is not going to be pretty.

Also the fact that they released a deluxe version mid-week, a $4.99 digital notebook digital variant with 10 original voice memos for limited time, a $4.99 live tour digital variant with 10 live tracks for limited time, and US-only deluxe CDs for limited time, so they could beat Sabrina's 7th week :-*

How did Coldplay have like 2.5x their previous albums sales tho

A lot of bundles?

A friend of mine used to tell me the reason why Everyday Life and Music of the Spheres debuted poorly was lack of availability in retail (he dragged Taylor and Adele for flooding stores while at it, but I digress). Moon Music, on the other hand, was sent to indie stores, Target, Barnes & Noble, had signed copies on Amazon, etc. Also, the band did a silly performance on QVC, which was quite fun.

Oh, and how could you NOT buy an album that has Aeterna on it :jonny5:

Except for the Notebook Edition's digital download, all of those came out before the forecast.

Labels have their own internal forecast.

Do you really think Coldplay's team was waiting for HDD to publish their forecast before pulling stunts? Nope, they already had the numbers in advance.

Just remember the chart battle between Sabrina and Travis a few weeks ago. HDD refused to release a second forecast that week, yet both artists' teams knew the numbers were extremely close and made moves accordingly.

I still have my doubts. I mean, Atlantic/Parlophone definitely wanted to boost sales, but was this #1 even on their cards? There wasn't any ticket presale thing like in the UK, I feel like they were either super confident or super insecure about the album :gaycat6:

Both of them are part of a trilogy!

  • Music of the Spheres Vol. I: From Earth with Love
  • Music of the Spheres Vol. II: Moon Music

The final volume might be an EP though.

Also, while Moon Music doesn't have a Coloratura, I think it's a much better body of work (guess we'll agree to disagree).

Well Coldplay right now is at their peak as a brand tbh. Musically maybe not but after keep touring constantly, with one of the greatest shows I ever attended (trust me I attend more than 10 tour per year due to my work in the industry), Theo catalogue surge on streaming and there's demand for more Coldplay as well. I mean their tour already sold 9.600.000 tickets and grossed $1,059,000,000 and there are more shows left with 3.100.000 tickets to add when all is said and done. That's says a lot.
