Why are you a K-pop stan or fan?

For me it's the escapism, I barely listen to West pop because very seldom do the mainstream artists try. They just record a 2 minute song and send it to radio stations. Sabrina Carpenter is the only one lately who is making music videos in West Pop entertaining. West Pop is too relatable, i don't listen to pop music for relatability.

It's grand, it's high budget, it's perfected, it always comes with a lot of content, whoever you follow you are sure to receive a satisfactory amount of.. everything. And as you've said, it doesn't strive for some corny faux relatability, I love pop stars that feel special, powerful, on top of the world, not something achievable by ordinary person. Kpop stars have that aura by default.

A variety of concepts

Lots of content for fans like variety shows

Lots of promo opportunities like perfomances at music shows

It's rarely ever boring :cm:

The only huge drawback is the fans because they can be VERY toxic and nasty. Swifties and barbz are like angels in comparison with several kpop fandoms on Twitter

Pure entertainment value.  One of my kpop bias groups isn't even on a major label, and had over a DOZEN performances, on various shows, last month. New outfits, and hairstyles, every time.

Western labels aren't creating performers, they are creating social media influencers.

It's mostly for the music tbh.

I also enjoy the choreography and the conceptualized visuals, plus the fan culture is super entertaining as long as you know how to not suck in the toxicity.

I've been a K-pop stan since 2016 and I've never seen the stan toxicity people talk about. It exists yeah but you have to be apart of that community of toxic stanning to see it I don't engage in responding to comments on Twitter or YouTube

Exactly I don't need a pop star to act like they're one of us or look like us like how they were with their condescending message in the beginning of covid

The songs and choreography are catchy. It's definitely changed a bit so I've lost some interest but there were so many perfect pop songs coming from Girls Generation, Sistar, BoA

I like how everything is perfected and manufactured. It's also not relatable, which I also appreciate, because it's kind of annoying how average people want to see themselves in entertainers for some reason which is why a lot of artists nowadays try to appear relatable.

Also, the album packaging is everything.

It's just 2000's pop music with better packaging and entertainment value + Asian pop stars the west tends to put at the backseat bc they aren't "marketable" enough for  your average joe :matty:

I grew up on it. My cousin showed me my first Kpop songs when we were both in middle school and it's just hard to let go of it. I still enjoy the current releases and it's nice going back listening to the nostalgic songs from when I was younger.

They still have the upbeat and the interesting melodies which the popgirls had in the early 10's.

Now that the music gets more bland and bland in pop, kpop becomes just better.
