Gladiator Posted September 2 Posted September 2 No. I don't think so. I do think it's embarrassing and hypocritical when stans of something criticize others for being stans of another. Like in that Harry Potter train station thread full of people still arguing about Katy Perry vs Gaga, Britney vs Christina, etc. saying it's time to grow up and move on.
Trash Posted September 2 Posted September 2 Let people enjoy the **** they like. Although the Disney stuff is a lil weird, if they're not being too extra and messy its ok, at least the parks as cool enough to justify it
Bubble Tea Posted September 2 Posted September 2 No more embarrassing than being grown men obsessing over pop stars. 2
Rotunda Posted September 2 Posted September 2 I think there's a way to have a deep interest in something while still being a well-adjusted human, and there's a way to have a deep interest in something while being unhinged. I find people who write thorough video essays on topics like Disney Parks or The Hunger Games very impressive, I find 30 year olds who are shipping characters or fixating on beefs from 20 years ago to be kinda cringe.
Redstreak Posted September 2 Posted September 2 I'm still a big obsessive fan of cartoons and Nintendo at my big age of almost 30, people just have to learn how to be not cringe about their obsessions

Nah shipping is a lot of fun as long as you're not a weirdo about it

KatyPrismSpirit Posted September 2 Posted September 2 who cares. we are all on a rotating floating rock awaiting our inevitable deterioration. the least thing we can do is to have some fun talking about music and art. 1
Orsay Posted September 2 Posted September 2 They're all embarrassing if you take them too far at any age, especially well into adulthood
Da Vinci Posted September 2 Posted September 2 Someone being an obsessed fan/nerd of fictional characters will always be harmless cause they're literally not real, it's childish at worst while someone being an obsessed fan of a celebrity and following/mobbing them irl is parasocial, extremely weird and stalkerish
Sugar-Rush Posted September 2 Posted September 2 Only if it overtakes aspects of your life, like financially or emotionally. If you stan something so hard that you buy every product that comes out or spend an inordinate amount of time obsessing about stats and charts to the point of worsening your mental health, then yeah that's a problem. Otherwise, like whatever you want idc.
naval23 Posted September 3 Posted September 3 no god forbid they activate their inner child and tap into their creativity

Damien M Posted September 4 Posted September 4 People watch (and are obsessive about) sports until their 80s and 90s so no. It's the same thing, they're all made up.

This. Me and my partner have plenty of special interests and hobbies but they don't get in the way of us living our regular lives.
P.O.P Posted September 4 Posted September 4 Being a fan? No But if you are memorizing spells in gibberish from Harry Potter, studying maps of non-existing places etc., that's embarrassing at any age.
Alldeezy Posted September 4 Posted September 4 yes stan Male artists instead idc I'm in my 30s and Im a huge Allday & Jordan stan but I don't go starting fights or stan wars with them. Jordan is like my celebrity crush and Allday is my idol who I go see Live when he tours. Nothing really wrong being a stan at any age. It just depends how you act.
Phaunzie Posted September 4 Posted September 4 No. Only losers with bad credit, bad pxssy and bad breath think it is.
Mitsuki Posted September 4 Posted September 4 Some people don't realize how much better It is to be a fan of someone/something when you are an adult and able to spend your own money and the amount of time you want on it. For example, If Taylor Swift came to my country when I was her fan and 15yo or 16yo I'd never be able to watch her concert, because my mother would never spend so much money over something so "trivial" as watching a concert in another state, since she doesn't see the value in it and It would requer a lot of efforts (I would have to miss days on school and she would have to miss days on work too). However, as a 27yo I could decide and do It on my own. What really makes being a fan of one of these things embarrassing would be embarrassing in any age... 1
Sad Serenade Posted September 4 Posted September 4 being fan =/= being crazy or obsessed. Having an hobby or stanning someone it's ok until it's an unhealthy obsession.
