Windy Day Posted August 20 Posted August 20 1 hour ago, k4rmabutterfly said: Doja ha impact I don't get it why some people are mad at her, she doesn't want to be that type of artist that have a parasocial relationship with their fans like Taylor or Harry and that's completely ok… there's literally nothing wrong with that. And her making sure fans get the message very soon at her career is the right move I think. It's giving Lana / Adele, just stream her music music and move on, it's not that deep. mind you doja, lana and adele are all adorable with their fans lana spends like 30 minutes to an hour taking pictures and talking with her fans after shows 2
Bookmark99 Posted August 20 Posted August 20 She should enjoy it while she can. In a couple of years the tweens and teens will have moved on to something else. 1 2 2
Cain Posted August 20 Posted August 20 I love that she's so honest about this tbh, like yes a majority of people are WEIRDOS
Topaz Posted August 20 Posted August 20 Wasnt she working at a fast food place last year? It makes sense that she didnt get a slow rise that she feels this way. She's barely had a year with all the success.
bad guy Posted August 20 Posted August 20 Strange responses in here. I understand the confusion from some who claim celebrities "ask" for this because they willingly put themselves in public but for many artists you can tell it's the music that matters most to them, not the attention. You're not seeing her exploit herself with public PR'd relationships, calling the paps on herself, or purposefully going out of her way to be seen in public. And no performing in front of thousands is not the same. If she hasn't done so already she should follow Billie's lead and just hire a social media manager that does all of the posting for her, step away completely from that world, and just focus on the music. As far as the fan thing goes, that unfortunately comes with the territory but nothing she said is wrong. It is weird to mob these people in public and ask for pictures (let's be real, most fans assume they can take them without even asking) and for fans to feel entitled to touch public figures regardless of how important their music/art may be to them. No artists don't owe fans anything aside from basic respect, and kindly declining pictures or hugs is not disrespectful. So tired of stan culture feeling entitled to the minds, bodies, and privacy of people they watch or listen to just because they chose to buy their content. And for those that are comparing the newer girls to the older girls on their handling of fame, it was much easier to have your own peace of mind pre-social media. No big name can go out anywhere without it being all over social media within seconds, whereas pre-social media stars could enjoy privacy without having people instantly recording/uploading your privacy on the internet for everyone to see…forever. She's totally valid in everything she's saying. 7 3
Ayanaa Posted August 20 Posted August 20 It's crazy the amount of haters she already has. Not just here but in other spaces too. She's a polarizing pop girl for sure, but I think she's gonna be a one era wonder anyway. I think she's gonna take a very long time to release her sophomore too. I like Chappell's aesthetic and can see why some would fawn over her but she falls short when it comes to the actual music. She only has 3 or 4 good songs, the rest is just basic stuff. 3 1
keerbyriri Posted August 20 Posted August 20 they don't call it making a deal with the devil for no reason, sacrificing your privacy and a normal social life for a chance at fame and success has always been par for the course (especially for a pop star). 2
Funnyfatty Posted August 20 Posted August 20 I don't respect her A BIT. I DON'T. She is not the first person that became famous. What happens to all the famous celebrities she should have taken notes. Beyonce rihanna michael jackson gaga taylor all have massive fanbases like if she could spend a minute to see how crazy fans go about their favourite celebrities maybe she wouldn't choose this path. If i would meet Gaga one day YES I WOULD GO NEXT TO HER and want to talk to her. If i saw her crying like a dog on the internet because i wanted to take a picture i would literally spit on her face. Calling fans weird or whatever shouldn't become the new norm especially when fans are the reason you exist. Britney is today free and happy because of her own fanbase obsessively fighting for her and her freedom. Gaga is today happy because her fanbase did support her no matter what Michael Jackson is still the king of pop because of his enourmous fanbase. Wth does she think she is while she has only 1 top 10 song in her whole career that she is talking like this? She is becoming a bit known and this is how she behaves. We need to get rid if her as quick as possible. And yes, haters have always existed. Back then there were Anti beyonce anti gaga anti rihanna facebook pages and blogs just to hate on the artist. Wendy and perez would create the most uncomfortable place for the artist and all those artists who have faced all those hate ended up being legends. Never saw them crying like a bich. she can f off tbh. I saw mostly people celebrating her success not hating or harrasing her. Ew. 1 1 3 7
Arrows Posted August 20 Posted August 20 She's 100% right, but there's nothing she can do about it if she wants success. She could release a thousand videos like this and it wouldn't work. It's either: have a career and learn to live with it, or pull the plug completely. She can't just magically become the first pop star in history that people treat normally, sadly. 4
LostInStereo100 Posted August 20 Posted August 20 I am 100% a Chappell Stan and I continue to be after this. That being said, could she have handled this differently? Absolutely. I remember like 4 months ago, she mentioned how overwhelmed with joy she was that girls girl type of celebs were reaching out to her and supporting her making sure she felt at ease with how crazy her year has been going. Whatever happened with that? Where are her mentors!? Where is her PR team? Honestly probably needs therapy with what's been happening this year to her, is she getting any of that kind of support? I honestly feel like after Sabrina's album push this week coming up, there will be a lot more attention on Chappell from the label. They need to act fast. People keep saying "she can just stop making music, she can just stop performing" It's not that easy when you are a newer to mainstream kind of artist. Deals have been made and signed. I hope she gets the help that she needs. She Is at an awkward spot right now in her career, and I feel like everyone in her life is just acting like "she's okay, she's got this" which doesn't always seem like the case 1
NoOneDiesFromLove Posted August 20 Posted August 20 Okay, I agree with the points she made but like… asking for relevance as a musician and for people to consume your art comes with fame… which she doesn't seem to want. So like, what now. like yeah fan behavior can be dehumanizing for a celebrity but you can't have it both ways. She should start wearing a mask/helmet like marshmello 1
Laura Palmer Posted August 20 Posted August 20 She's had such a meteoric rise to fame that she's obviously going to struggle to adapt. Stay strong Queen, do you
Kristie Kuwa Posted August 20 Posted August 20 Rename the thread to "Chappell drags Swifties" for that hit thread

Uncatena Posted August 20 Posted August 20 (edited) the absolutely insane responses in here... you guys are literally pulling a "she's asking for it" about a woman whose family is being stalked and harassed. also, artists don't owe you a selfie or their time. their art is their work for us but we have no claim of their private life or time. grow the **** up. like, instead of the "well, that's just part of it :/" we should have a conversation about the self-righteousness and disrespect some "fans" have but no... ATRL was ready to hate on this woman the moment GL,B! got huge and y'all of course jumped at it the very first chance you get... so childish and predictable Edited August 20 by ChapelHooker 4 3
StayFrosty Posted August 20 Posted August 20 This girl has complained more about fame in the last 5 months than other popstars did in decades. Jfc. Yes stalking and harassment are disgusting but these videos will do NOTHING to combat it. Go out under disguise and hire security that's all you can do. 5 1
TouchinFree Posted August 20 Posted August 20 (edited) I mean she has a point, but I can't help and think these girls wouldn't survive a day if they'd grew up as popstars in the early 2000's. Can you imagine if they'd gotten the Britney treatment? Edited August 20 by TouchinFree 1
Titanbaddie Posted August 20 Posted August 20 Nothing about her suggests to me that she's prepared for what it means to be a "major pop girl" and i hope she takes the Beyonce and Adele approach and just releases her music and stays away from the press and fans. She's gonna have to live a normal life outside of her celebrity.
thatsmydemi Posted August 20 Posted August 20 As someone said in this thread, it's not bad that she's talking about this. Many of our faves have dealt with things like this and when they said "no" to a photograph or when they have acted kinda rude because they were on a bad day or simply were not in the mood, the internet has attacked them. Chappell talking about this will tell her fans what she likes and what not. Of course, this won't stop the whole world from asking for a picture or stopping her wherever they see her but they are now aware of the kind of response she may give. That being said, girl needs to be aware that the situation will only get worse from now on and with the kind of promo she's booking, this is just the beginning. She seems like she's going to pull a Lorde eventually, take long time between albums and enjoy a low public profile.

katara Posted August 20 Posted August 20 Honestly she is acting obtuse for no reason. There are some actions that will have certain outcomes. If you go in water you get wet. If you stand in the sun you will get a burn/tan. If you become famous you WILL attract lots of unwanted attention. She can either detach herself from public life like most celebs do or she can choose to not pursue fame anymore. 7
Better Mistakes Posted August 20 Posted August 20 Valid what she's saying and whilst I adore her music she's reminding me of Iggy Azalea in a weird way 1
