Chappell Roan calls out harassment she faces

Recommended Posts

She is NOT made for fame. Stalking is NEVER ok, but a fan asking for a photo, etc. is just how it is when you're famous. She is acting like she's Taylor Sift and Britney Spears level (who would still stop for fans when they were 10x bigger than she is currently). She can release music and back away from everything else if she doesn't like fame.

I've NEVER understood people who hate fame who literally then just don't leave fame? There were so many artists who disappeared in the early 90s and 00s and some of them didn't care for fame either. She needs to rethink her career then.

She's the one lacking empathy.

Huh? That makes no sense.

well you are famous now:chick1:

Think about ALL of the pop stars who have been so accommodating and loving to fans. Now look at HER. :cm:

She's right but a lot of the fans asking for pics or saying hi on the street truly mean well. There are stalkers and that's horrible. She has the right to say no to photos and not acknowledge fans in public.

She's only thinking about her own feelings and doesn't give a **** about her fans' excitement.

I feel bad for her, but yeah, this isn't going to help her situation and in a way she was probably better off not addressing it at all.

It's just the reality of things. It's not right and it's not fair but it's not going to change in the way she wants. She should invest in a great therapist, security and PR team because that's the only thing that's going to alleviate this treatment even slightly.

Sorry Chappell, welcome to showbiz. Wishing you love and luck.

She just needs guidance and good mentors.

I get that there are fans who really do too much, but it's just the way fame and being famous works. People will look up to you, fangirl over you, etc.

She has so much to offer, hope this doesn't stop her from doing great things in pop and hope she finds ways to cope.

she's taking way too long to release a follow up to good luck, babe. she really is over it

I'm pretty sure that's because she wasn't expecting her album to blow up after GLB, so there's no need to follow up with new music just yet

I wouldn't be shocked if she goes the Nelly Furtado/Fiona Apple route. She doesn't like fame at all and I think this will get worse with the amount of exposure she will get in the next few weeks. I wish her the best and she reaches out to her popstar elders for advice.

normal people don't act the way that stans act sometimes and im sick of the whole "well you're a celeb!!!111 this is what you signed up for !111" argument because why is their responsibility to accept this behavior and why do you think you're ENTITLED to do it?

you really think you ate that  :suburban: it's just a silly wishful thinking, and that's real entitlement. „normal people" exist next to insane ******* and when you achieve mainstream fame you get both sides. it's literally part of the job since the very beginning and is never gonna change. never.

Chappell and I both went to the same sh*thole town and high school in Missouri. It's nothing but trailer parks, republicans, and meth heads. She desperately needs media training and a therapist if she wants her art to continue to make any impact.

Growing up there ****** me up, too, but girl, I got help and found a way to survive and thrive in NYC without self-sabotaging.

There's nothing on her website past October. She's not preselling any tours, she's not capitalizing on this moment AT ALL, and now we know why.

Taylor wishes she had that to her credit. Gaga is the one who laid the ground work and connected the bridge from the fan to artist interactions and relationships. (And look how that ended up for her)

Rabid fans have been a thing for ages??? People were going ballistic over Franz Liszt in the 1840s :rip:

OT: I get where she's coming from but idk I feel like her conflating stalkers with fans asking for photos is indicative of at least a lack of media training...  yes drawing boundaries is good, laudable even but if that line is "please pretend to not know me when you see me in the street", which let's be honest is normal fan behaviour, she really should consider reducing her public appearances instead...

Its understandable if you hate being famous, I really get it. Some fans can be really deranged. Normal people get stalkers too so imagine how its like when you are famous.

But unfortinatley, thats the price you pay. I hope in time she will pick up a few tricks from other famous singers like Bey, Rih, Gaga etc on how to keep your privacy and peace in life.

But calling out people for asking for a picture or a hug is not a good look. If you dont want to be famous, its time to change your career path before your mental health goes to hell. Being a celebrity comes with a price

stuff like this truly makes me respect artists like billie even more because even though she had to deal with a way bigger fame than chappell from a very young age and was always vocal about the stalking and harassment she's going through, she never blamed it on people who genuinely loved her and never made her fans feel like weirdos for being excited to see her. same thing goes for gaga

This! Both of them always appreciated their fans so much and is something that makes me love them too. Till this day they are always thankful for all the love and excitement people show them. Ofc there has to be boundaries (and both of them have been distancing more as the fame got bigger because of the weirdos ofc let's not be naive there has to be limits) and any artist achieving this level of fame needs a good security with them when out in public since creeps can be anywhere but also is so endearing when artists and fans connect and exchange love and experiences. Hope Chappell will be able to appreciate this side of fame too soon (im thinking with security and a little more time to navigate this she will be)

Thank you for sharing this.

She seems to be in this weird midspot where she has the fame but without any of the protection for it, if what was alleged here earlier is accurate.

Unless that's her choice or she can't afford it.

She is completely right in what she said in the video, but there's nothing she can do or say that will make people stop this behavior, so I think if this is something that really bothers her and she can't handle this, she should either try to have a career like bjork/fiona apple, who only appears in the public to release new albums once or twice a decade, or quit music. There's no other way.

i think it's very hard to put yourself in her shoes given the incredible rise to fame that she's had. it would be hard for anyone to deal with

equally, setting boundaries with your fans can be done fairly respectfully and swiftly... i.e. :

in these videos she just comes across equally as rude as some of her fans tbh

I hope she pulls a Bjork on the next fan that doesn't respect her bounderies

And also I hope she pulls a Bjork on all the people commenting in this thread sayin that she's wrong for actin like this 🙏

This is her life, clearly she doesn't give 2 fucks about success or losing fans if it means having a good mental health. Good for her 👏  stand your ground gurl and smack the ***** who dares come touch u without your permission. Especially the bottoms in here, I'd get a good kick out of it.

It's sad to see that this is her response to a once in a lifetime opportunity so many people would kill for. I really wish she equips herself with the proper support system and security so she feels comfortable moving forward because this will be her new normal for at least another album cycle. But mostly I hope she can change her perspective because it's HER ride and she deserves to enjoy it. Especially as her music is resonating so strongly with the public.

This situation makes me realize how crazy it was to see people like Gaga and Rihanna facing their meteoric rises to fame with confidence and even with a daring manner, in the era of relentless paparazzi & burgeoning social media. Their attitude towards fame had so much poise and demeanor that it almost weaponized their fame and made them stronger. Obviously I have no idea what it was really like behind the scenes, but they're both living the high life now so it obviously worked out for them.
