Talking about Chappell here But you see an A list actor on the big screen when you go to the movies no? It's really not crazy. Did you see the lolla crowd? The biggest in history? That's on her first album. She can easily skyrocket into fame within the next several years.
Thesedays Posted August 24 Posted August 24 7 minutes ago, Bewitched said: Yah Beyoncé never really did interact with fans when social media first starting becoming very popular. I think new artists kinda need to be "chronically online" to gain a fanbase but once they're established they can slowly just go the beyonce route. Or maybe they can simply not pursue mainstream fame if they don't want to deal with the consequences of it? How about that? 2
Peak Now Posted August 24 Posted August 24 Not Taylor being mentioned again y'all only give her a modicum of credit when it's something negative huh Again I really don't think asking for a selfie is really "unhinged fan behaviour", and it's really only an invasion of privacy if someone takes a photo of someone else without their consent. If someone asks Chappell to take a photo she can very much deny that request, but from what I'm inferring it seems she thinks that the request itself is a transgression... idk you're now a public figure, you can't really re-anonymize yourself can you? Of course this doesn't extend to doxxing or stalking but these are very different things normal fans don't dox their faves pls 4

AFullMoonlight Posted August 24 Posted August 24 Also for those bringing up Beyoncé, people often forget how badly she has been treated throughout her entire career. Literally had a website dedicated to hating her and people think it is ok just because she's a celebrity and it 'comes with the job'. These celebrities need to start taking the Anthony Mackey approach to fame. 1

Just because she pulled a big crowd at some festival doesn't mean anything. When she's selling out Stadiums across the globe like Beyoncé and Taylor then she's comparable.

Of course it's not okay, it's awful, and no one should have to deal with that, but let's be real, huge amounts of people are ****, and if you aren't emotionally able to deal with that, it's better for your mental and physical health to mitigate that. People yelling her name on the street is triggering to her, how does she expect to prevent that? She isn't NEARLY as famous as someone like Beyonce, and it'll only get worse.
fountain Posted August 24 Posted August 24 I don't see how anybody can disagree with any this. Not that their disagreement does anything. You're yelling at clouds, and incredibly weird. Good on her for demanding the respect she deserves
Princess Aurora Posted August 24 Posted August 24 Did she lie though? She's anti-celeb worship culture and I'm not against it.

That's a problem with the people doing it. That should be something frowned upon in society. When the lights are on and the stage is lit, then scream and shout all you want. However, when somebody is walking their dog or shopping in target leave them alone! I think it's weird that y'all are defending parasocial behaviors in here which is what Chappell is addressing. The answer is not she should stop doing something she's good at because people are weird. The answer is people need to stop being weird. Edited August 24 by AFullMoonlight
Velvet Night Posted August 24 Posted August 24 Good for her for not backing down. One of the toxic parts of stan culture is fans thinking an artist is their friend. They are not your friend. I'll never understand people feeling they have the right to approach someone just because they like their art. Anytime I've seen a famous person out and about I just file it away as an interesting story to tell at a party and I keep it pushing. I really, really hope the people who need to read this post see it and absorb it and calm the **** down. I've enjoyed her album the most out of all the incredible pop music that's come to the forefront this year, and the more I see things like this from her the more I'm afraid she's going to stop creating for good. 1 1
piotrert Posted August 24 Posted August 24 Its cute she thinks that with those ramblings she can change celebrity culture that has been persistent for over 100 years 1 1

You're talking about taming an entire society… why do you think people are famous to begin with?
sha-nasty Posted August 24 Posted August 24 Someone get Charli on the line for this girl. She clearly hasn't signed her share of dead relative ashes or douches 1
Troll Idle Posted August 24 Posted August 24 She is setting herself up. Can't wait to see how this turns out 1

Ok well no one is saying she's selling out over the world. But just like lady gaga, it would only take one more smash album for that to happen. Gaga was doing stadiums already with Born This Way. An exponential rise to fame can happen VERY fast. And she is not acclimated to how quickly she's rising. so no, if she puts out a new album next year which she HAS to because of her 360 deal, it can absolutely blow her up to stadium tour status based on how QUICKLY she is becoming famous. Also, ironic that she is railing against celebrity culture when celebrity culture is the only reason why she's being coddled while making these insane and frankly offensive ramblings Oh this is kind of tea 1
Arrows Posted August 24 Posted August 24 Again, she's 100% right. But this ain't gonna help a thing, sadly. 1 2
KatyPrismSpirit Posted August 24 Author Posted August 24 What a well formulated statement. Hopefully those still saying "it comes with thr territory" are just excusing predatory creepy behavior. She spoke her truth and it's the best thing she could have done

Gaga was a global phenomenon in 2008-2011. They're not comparable either. Gagas debut sold 30M records and spawned #1 hits worldwide. There's so many One Hit wonders who never solidifies their status as MPG and sizzles out on their 2nd album. If Chappell doesn't capitalise on her success and play her cards right she will follow in those footsteps. Only time will tell. 1
HitMeHard Posted August 24 Posted August 24 Well she doesnt graps the idea of being a celebrity i guess. I think comparing a fan wanting a picture , to a stalker is wrong tho, and if she (and she probably will still have) stalkers she should handle it distrectly and not on tiktok. 1
