Chappell Roan calls out harassment she faces

Recommended Posts

of course this thread is a bunch of gay men telling a woman how she should feel and how she should accept the possible harassment, abuse and stalking that she may have faced or could possibly face. :rip:

Not at all defending the stalking or extreme behavior but I'm sorry, if a seemingly normal fan walks up to you on the street to simply say hello, tell you how much your art means to them, possibly a photo...you are absolutely entitled to give that to them. They quite literally pay your bills. You do not have to pretend to be in an amazing mood if you're not or even act like you care if you truly don't. But to pursue music as your career path and then act flabbergasted that people want to take photos with you? That's insane. Chappell was more than welcome to make art from her bedroom and keep working a drive-thru but she clearly didn't want to do that.

I'm saying this as a musician myself. I have almost 40k monthly listeners on Spotify (which is next to nothing compared to this girl) and if every single one of those people saw me at a music festival/at Starbucks/wherever it maybe, I am absolutely taking a photo with every single one of them whether I'm in the mood to or not because that is what I signed up for in pursuing a career as a musician. I can't walk into my day job and tell my boss that writes my paychecks every Friday morning that he's not entitled to my time. Like hello? He would tell me "okay, then you're not entitled to a paycheck". I'm also not equating fans to being the boss of an artist because they're absolutely not, but if I recall correctly, Chappell was dropped once before, correct? Because the fans weren't buying her music, tickets or merch. She doesn't HAVE to perform at the VMA's, she doesn't HAVE to post on social media every day, she doesn't HAVE to tour, she quite literally doesn't HAVE to do anything outside of creating music if THAT'S all she wants to do. But given that she IS doing all of these things, it appears she wants to be able to make a living off of her music and if that's the case...Girl, shut up and take the photo because nobody was asking her for those when she worked in a drive thru.

Maybe an Enya/Fiona Apple like career would fit her better than superstardom. Just get a nice mansion in a middle of nowhere, live there reculsively and drop your new music when you're ready

we need to rethink how we treat the pop girlies, some of them have stopped talking to their fans altogether because some of y'all are a bunch of obsessed weirdos

there are some points that she has made :coffee2:

Purchasing music or concert tickets is a business transaction. It guarantees the buyer access only the product that they paid for, nothing more. Not the attention/body/physical space of the creator.

Fans are buying those products, and the word "fan" is literally derived from "fanatics". They are purchasing that product as a sign of support, because they love and feel connected to the artist. Sure, artists don't have to make time for their fans out in public. They're not obligated to be nice to them or take photos with them... but that would be incredibly shitty of them...

It's kind of crazy that she would post a video on TikTok insinuating her fans "don't really know her" - regardless of it being true personally... it feels a little disrespectful to her die hard fans that are supportive of her.

This fan waited 6 hours for that tote - look how appreciative they are of this moment. Perhaps, she needs to set boundaries. This took all of 2 minutes of Ariana's time who is one of the biggest pop stars of this decade.

Ariana was so good at this vid. Whether she's pretending or not, it shows that she appreciates the support.

Sometimes in life you get what you wish for. How extremely lucky are those that experience that, despite the downsides that that might have. That's all I have to say. There are people who are underpaid, stuck in places/situations they hate because of lack of financial security or lack of chances wishing for at least some of their dreams to come true.

I feel like people are way overreacting to her comments, she literally starts by describing several scenarios that happened to her and her family that clearly cross a line. Just because you really like an artist and their music doesn't mean you are entitled to a positive interaction with them. It is nice of course if they do it, but they are not obligated to do so.

Not some people here literally saying "she's lucky that being harassed is her biggest problem?" :rip: just because something is commonly done to celebrities doesn't make it okay. They are still human beings.

I think her delivery could've been better. If she wants to set healthy boundaries with fans she's within her right to do so... just don't stop for the photo or do it quickly. I think ideally artists should make time for their fans, as they've given them their platform... but it is ultimately her choice.

I don't think post a video online saying "I'm a random person. You're a random person. You don't know me. My time is my own time." :rip: is the best solution. She's speaking to something not even 1% of the world's population can relate to... I don't doubt that it's hard being under a microscope... Maybe seek advice privately... If anything she's opening herself up to even more public discourse by posting this video, which it sounds like she wants to avoid in the first place.

She's being insincere. Her management represents Ed Sheeran, Kenny Chesney, Billie Eilish, Coldplay, Imagine Dragons, Skrillex, The Lumineers, Lorde, Sturgill Simpson, Black Pumas, Jack Harlow, Kendrick Lamar, Drake, SZA, Finneas, Central Cee, Marshmello, Swedish House Mafia, Fred Again, Anuel AA, Noah Kahan, Blackpink, Calvin Harris.

You could argue, if you're being sympathetic, that she somehow fell into her SECOND major-label deal, but you sign with an A-list talent agency for EXPOSURE.

Girl what? Her management does not represent any of those people lmao. This is her management: https://sotadtla.com/management/

List of artists represented: Becky G, Coco Jones, Em Beihold, Jazmine Sullivan, LP, Livingston, Daniel Nigro, Laura Jean Anderson, Liz Hernandez, Lucky Daye, Michael Coleman, Mike Del Rio and Mitch McCarthy.

I don't know about you, but I've heard of exactly 3 of those people.

I don't know where you got that random list of a-listers from but it ain't from her manager LMAO

it's hilarious how people are missing her point and proving it at the same time :toofunny2:

She thought she was in the music business but she's actually in the fame business.

I don't even like her music but she's absolutely right. I really don't get how admiration of one's talent can lead someone to act in such an extreme manner. It's one thing to take a pic from afar and move on and another thing to act like a batshit insane person and expect the celeb to not be in fear of ther lives.

Sorry, I meant her talent agents. She's signed to Wasserman Music.

The sad thing is that she can keep saying this and venting her frustrations (as is her right) but literally nothing is going to change unfortunately

If you don't get it, then maybe you shouldn't speak on it.

Speak on what? Your inability to not act like a lunatic bc you happen to like some songs of a singer? :rip:

Who are we to tell her how she should feel.

if she don't like it she don't like it.

I think we were raised with poised pop stars like Beyoncé, Britney and Rihanna who entertained our foolishness and look how they re behaving today. Especially Rih and Bey they couldn't be more removed from us

so maybe this girl has a point. Bop to their music cry if u must and if u see them irl wave and keep it moving.

points were made :clap3:
