Good for her for setting boundaries. Her life has totally changed and she must be very overwhelmed, she went from being an unknown artist to massive star in the span of like 6 months. Yes the stalkers come hand in hand with the adoring crowds but it doesn't mean she needs to passively accept it.

People need to understand she isn't like Olivia or Sabrina. Chappell always lived a true normal girl life. She wasn't on a TV show, she didnt grow up with parents in the industry. She literally exploded to megastardom in months. She was literally working in a drive-thru in 2021 after she got dropped because Pink Pony Club flopped in 2020. This social shift would be too much to handle for everyone, especially for someone with zero experience in the industry.

This may be true, and while I'm empathetic... she and her team should talk through those potential mental hardships privately. Not on TikTok.

The reality is she signed to a record label for her music to be heard by the masses. If she didn't want that she shouldn't have signed with a record label to globalize her image and her music. She could've remained independent, maintained her life, and do it for the artistic output. You can't have your cake and eat it too.

I don't condone any artist complaining about "people," your fans running up to you for a photo. She's not a "random lady" like she says in the video. These "people" are putting money into your pocket, buying tickets to your shows, purchasing merch, and bringing you endless opportunities (brand deals, magazine covers, etc.).

If you see your fans - be gracious. They're excited to see you. Stop for the photo. It's the least you can do.

She has the power to pull the plug on her career and go get a job in finance or something but is still raking in the checks and bookings from her album. The people who think they know her are the ones paying her bills.

[...]

You don't get heaps of praise and adoration and money just for existing and then give up nothing except some studio sessions and live performances in return, there ARE trade-offs, it's a JOB.

Her job is to make music and perform it. Nothing else. The people who pay her bills already got something in return: her music. That's all they're entitled to if they purchased her music.

And her massive footprint in the press and social media are...?

Musician and recording artist are not the same thing. She signed a star-making record deal more than once and has sought out a career that's about more than making and performing music.

It is sad what she's going through but she DOES have the power to Nelly Furtado herself, she can't control the public's predictable and expected behavior, she can only control herself.

She's being insincere. Her talent agents represent Ed Sheeran, Kenny Chesney, Billie Eilish, Coldplay, Imagine Dragons, Skrillex, The Lumineers, Lorde, Sturgill Simpson, Black Pumas, Jack Harlow, Kendrick Lamar, Drake, SZA, Finneas, Central Cee, Marshmello, Swedish House Mafia, Fred Again, Anuel AA, Noah Kahan, Blackpink, Calvin Harris.

You could argue, if you're being sympathetic, that she somehow fell into her SECOND major-label deal, but you sign with an A-list talent agency for EXPOSURE.

Taylor normalized this type of behavior by making cult fanbases the norm and it infested a generation.

I don't think it's necessarily insincere, I think she's at the stage where she can't afford 24/7 security and gated communities but desperately needs both of those things and is rightfully very frustrated.

Voicing those frustrations is pointless because it's just another platform for people to either bully or act like they know her and white knight her. It's not like the people who are so lacking in self awareness that they'd interrupt a very busy person's day for a free impromptu m&g would suddenly not do that because of some tiktoks, these people always think they're the exception in the first place.

It's quite early for her to complain. It comes with the job, get used to it or go and sell cakes at a bakery. She really isn't made for this. Hope she retires soon for her own sake.

I'm all against stupid people and harassment in general but what do these aspiring artists expect about fame and stardom in general? I mean, if you're going to dive into that world, you must be prepared for that kind exposure and situations, why would you do it in first place if you're not ready / you don't like it? I don't understand these kinds of celebrities.

Celebrities almost never have 24/7 security. Some very rich ones do. Kylie Jenner, apparently, pays 5 million USD per year for her security, which are stationed on her property and protect her when she's out.

Lol. She doesn't want to be touched or photographed? Fine, that's her prerogative, but let's not pretend her fans are in the wrong when those are quite normal and harmless things to do that completely diverge from harmful endeavors such as stalking her family members. She's acting overly entitled, to the point of being disrespectful to the people who pay her bills by comparing them to felons for only wanting a selfie or a hug.

I know people in my personal life who have needed security and were probably making a lot less money than Chappel Roan is for Atlantic right now. :rip:

Chappell is more than welcome to spend every single cent she earns on 24/7 private security if she feels she needs it!

Chappell has a core fanbase that consists of Tumblr Lesbians and Trixie Mattel stans. I'd be asking myself if I really wanted fame too. :gaycat6:

tbh the industry needs to become less predatory and protect its talent!

even if you want to be a heartless republican hater, she's clearly not cut out for fame and protecting her physical and mental wellbeing would result in them being able to make money off her for longer, it really benefits everybody

What she's saying is that harassment and constant fear of physical safety shouldn't be the price of being an artist. "Welp too bad that's how our society is!" Yeah well society needs to change and be better.

It shouldn't, much like we shouldn't live in a world full of hunger and poverty, but here we are. Society is capable of so much worse than what she goes on about. Taylor just had to cancel a show due to terroristic threats. Her feelings are perfectly valid, but what I said is what I said. Fame is a threat to the mental.  Whether it be rabid fans or the sinister industry itself, get yourself a good support system or opt out of it if you feel it's not worth it. Hoping society changes is not an option.

Not at all defending the stalking or extreme behavior but I'm sorry, if a seemingly normal fan walks up to you on the street to simply say hello, tell you how much your art means to them, possibly a photo...you are absolutely entitled to give that to them. They quite literally pay your bills. You do not have to pretend to be in an amazing mood if you're not or even act like you care if you truly don't. But to pursue music as your career path and then act flabbergasted that people want to take photos with you? That's insane. Chappell was more than welcome to make art from her bedroom and keep working a drive-thru but she clearly didn't want to do that.

I'm saying this as a musician myself. I have almost 40k monthly listeners on Spotify (which is next to nothing compared to this girl) and if every single one of those people saw me at a music festival/at Starbucks/wherever it maybe, I am absolutely taking a photo with every single one of them whether I'm in the mood to or not because that is what I signed up for in pursuing a career as a musician. I can't walk into my day job and tell my boss that writes my paychecks every Friday morning that he's not entitled to my time. Like hello? He would tell me "okay, then you're not entitled to a paycheck". I'm also not equating fans to being the boss of an artist because they're absolutely not, but if I recall correctly, Chappell was dropped once before, correct? Because the fans weren't buying her music, tickets or merch. She doesn't HAVE to perform at the VMA's, she doesn't HAVE to post on social media every day, she doesn't HAVE to tour, she quite literally doesn't HAVE to do anything outside of creating music if THAT'S all she wants to do. But given that she IS doing all of these things, it appears she wants to be able to make a living off of her music and if that's the case...Girl, shut up and take the photo because nobody was asking her for those when she worked in a drive thru.

I feel like there's sometimes a difference between what you can do and what you should do. Yes, obviously she's not obligated to take a photo with or hug a fan, but if I were in her position and saw that my fans had lifted me from being a struggling artist to a millionaire, chart-topping mainstream artist, I would take photos and give them hugs out of sheer gratitude.

Purchasing music or concert tickets is a business transaction. It guarantees the buyer access only the product that they paid for, nothing more. Not the attention/body/physical space of the creator.

Does she really think a tiktok rant and calling her fans weirdos is going to make anything better? Girl, you are in the wrong place. Loving the money and all the other perks, but the fans who made everything possible are too much for you. Like wtf
