The reason I don't feel bad for Katy is that it's becoming more clear that she was a fraud. "Katy Perry" was really Bonnie, Luke, and Max performed by a busty brunette with a wink.

Katy was never good at live performances since her OOTB days. And now it's becoming clear that most of her work was the result of others.

Katy thinks that her legacy is Firework and Roar. What? Makes sense when you consider that most her other hits weren't really her ideas even though she has some songwriting credit. But Firework and Roar were clearly written by her. Of course she'd want to think her own work was her biggest.

100% this. I was rooting for her right until the moment it was revealed that she went back to Puke for a female empowerment song. literal worms for brains.

she deserves every single lashing she's getting now :sorry:

There's a difference between Luke lashings and dragging her for her age or body. Many of the drags are straight up misogynistic. Calling her a flop for 8 years yet she's still there relevant enough to get these headlines and articles about her while actual irrelevant artists are long forgotten.

I'm not even a big fan but this hate train has become so childish. No matter how you try to spin it, Katy remains a huge name in the music industry. Her prime/glory days are over, she's peaked yes, BUT that does not, in any way, take away from the fact that she's had incredible success at some point in her career, which has made her name, as a pop artist, staple in the industry. It was a little funny at first, now it's just silly and stupid.

Well :eli:

Did no one in the room think OH the dr luke working on a woman empowerment song? That wont bring any heat!  lol

They wanted the smoke

And then they deliver 2 of the most generic, DOA songs I've heard from a popstar in recent memory!?

You really have to laugh...

Throw in the low budget, no-concept videos and the environmental crimes...we are witnessing a purposeful flop before our very eyes

WOW... never considered why she favoured Firework and Roar as her "big ones" until now. You just blew my mind :deadbanana2:

It's funny how all these magazines would do a complete 180 if she was to ever get a hit again

Well damn! What happened to her American Idol audience?  It's almost like that demo doesn't buy music.

You claim to be against the tearing down of women yet by defending Katy from being dragged for willingly working with an alleged rapist and misogynist, you're indirectly supporting that man. If Katy didn't want the backlash then maybe she shouldn't have worked with Dr. Luke on this album in the first place. :celestial5:

What evidence are you basing this on???? I don't understand how y'all form opinions based on nothing! SHOW me Katy Perry's album contract fine print. You are writing as if you have read it?

I don't see anyone outside of the Weho Gays talking about Charli  - I think her popularity this summer, while bigger than she was before,  is over exaggerated. She's not even doing a headlining solo arena tour in the US and her co headlining tour  isn't even sold out.

She's currently #11, #21, #32 on the Spotify US chart

"Katy knew exactly the album she wanted to make and put together the team to make it happen," a Capitol Records source confirms to Rolling Stone. "And that includes previous collaborators including Luke, Stargate, Max Martin, and Sarah Hudson, and some new heavy hitters such as Vaughn Oliver, Rocco Valdes, and Theron Thomas."

she is clearly being heavily pushed by the media, but the thing is not really happening in the real world... I mean, there are a lot of artists right now who are immensely bigger but they are not talked about at all. Look at Billie, she has one of the biggest hits right now yet no one is saying it's a billie summer, or that  tipsy song, I mean it's clear her PR team, cooperating with the media, is trying to gaslight the world and maybe they'll get to the point where it will REALLY be a brat summer:clap3:

The mental gymnastics to defend her morally bankrupt decision-making. :dies: She's 16 years in the game, she's not being "forced" to work with anyone.

I'm not trying to defend her I'm trying to understand her. Everything on this site is about winning and scoring points 24/7. :rip:

She's an artist I've been listening to since I was a teenager and always thought she had a good heart so am truly bamboozled by her decision to go to Luke. Like she was in the depths of the trial. :gaycat6:

Thanks for this, it's always a good question to ask (even if it's unpopular) because it helps move the conversation forward based on facts and evidence, which it turns out there is a lot of (and which wouldn't have been posted without your question)

Thank you! I hadn't seen this so it really is enlightening. I can't get my head around her logic to go to Luke, especially when the songs so far have been so average. Don't get me wrong they're both bops but not what I'd expect for a Katy Perry comeback + lead.

Maybe she really has lost her finer pop sensibilities...

Also @TomTomwhy are you down voting me asking for evidence? :rip:

That means nothing. Spotify charts do not equal success. It's a private corporation that can be easily bought.  Look at Espresso, that was auto played to the nth degree and was pushed to every Spotify user… which later counted toward streams. Tell me when Charli sells out an arena on her own in the US or is featured in magazines, mentioned in tv shows, etc. She's gotten super popular  amongst a very specific group of people within the LGBTQ community (who may or may not be some users here so she's made out to be way bigger than she is) but is by no means bigger than Katy Perry at her worst; let alone her peak a decade ago.

Well, you didn't just ask for evidence, you accused others of forming their opinions "based on nothing" which is just completely wrong, as has been pointed out.
