mons†er Posted August 14 Posted August 14 (edited) Isn't GQ a Men's magazine? Why are they speaking on Katy Perry and her music? Shouldn't they be focused on styling cis hetero white men who don't bathe everyday or don't know how to dress outside of a basic oxford shirt, khaki pants and a pair of New Balances? Listen, I get that Katy Perry has released 2 dates songs, the latter being better but not by much. However, this Katy Perry Hate Train that I think has truly spiraled out of control at this point. It's also misogynistic for GQ to be speaking like that on any woman in general. I'm not the biggest Katy fan but honestly this is insane. She still worked with Dr. Puke and that's something I can't forgive. But isn't it enough that the woman who once had 5 consecutive #1 songs can't even get a top 20 hit? Edited August 14 by mons†er 8
ifeelitboy Posted August 14 Posted August 14 I think some ATRLers has nothing to do other than bashing Katy online and think it's a cool thing to do, meanwhile Katy stays rich & fabulous 4
Rihinvention Posted August 14 Posted August 14 Charli has definitely overtaken Katy as the body of pop, so maybe that's why they're writing this.
Breakdown Posted August 14 Posted August 14 The Anti-Brat? Well, thanks for the compliment, I guess. No wonder I stan this Pop Queen! 2

I've been hearing of Charli xcx since I was in 7th grade. 'Boys' made quite a splash and even '1999' was a catchy bop. Charli didn't just bust into the scene all of a sudden sans Chapelle, it has been a build-up over a decade 4 1

Come on now. We shouldn't be pitting them against each other. They like each other. We should celebrate one person's success without tearing down another. 1 1
BornUnbroken Posted August 14 Posted August 14 A month later and they're still writing hit pieces on this idiot It's what she deserves. Let this be a lesson to all the other A&R's thinking of having their artists be associated with that man. 4

Phaunzie Posted August 14 Posted August 14 I mean, mainstream media and social media can't stop talking about Katy, so I guess yes, she is the Anti-Brat. Our Infamous Icon.
alfonso12 Posted August 14 Posted August 14 The way when she revealed her new logo everyone was like "she wants to be Charli" and now she's being called the anti-brat. 1
applestar Posted August 14 Posted August 14 Quote a relic of the 2010s who's no match for modern pop stars like Charli XCX and Sabrina Carpenter. THE SNEAK 2
Stunnah Posted August 14 Posted August 14 Having to churn out clickbait for online magazines for 10 pounds a paragraph while living in a mouldy bedsit in Croydon really does a number on people! 4
dbaby Posted August 14 Posted August 14 Rich coming from GQ who just put Brad Pitt on the cover Not saying Katy doesn't deserve any criticism, but get it together before you're gonna read. 4
RIKI232 Posted August 14 Posted August 14 Lol the hate is just pathetic at this point. sis remains UNBOTHERED 1

That kind of narrative is overwhelming and extremely hard to overcome unless you can pull a 180 and shock audiences but it begs the question... does she even have any left anymore that can be receptive towards that kind of a career move? This was probably her last chance to crawl out of the hole that she dug herself into but instead of trying to come back with something fresh and mature and simply choosing not to collaborate with that scum, she decided to dig it even deeper flopping with dignity and better material would have been far better for her long-term than whatever this trainwreck has been so far. Kats swore that her decision to collaborate with him would not change anything since the GP doesn't care but she has been off the GP's radar for a long time now, pop music listeners are her first point of contact with her new music and everyone is aware of Luke's history. She had to gain some sort of traction with them first before the GP could give her another hit that she was desperately seeking. These songs got outright blocked, panned and rejected (and rightfully so) at that initial stage before the GP could even become aware of them. some people here aren't realizing that by anti-brat they mean inauthentic. Brat at its core is an album authentically Charli and very much a masterclass in owning your image and staying true to yourself. Authenticity in pop music is sooooo in right now, and unfortunately for Katy, releasing songs with very little substance other than generic statements produced by an "alleged" abuser is not what people want right now. She had so much good will going into this era, the people want (good) fun pop music again but she threw it all away by creating something so generic with an abuser. If she really wanted to find some success why not find someone new who's sound is in at the moment. Even Jack Antonoff could've probably given Katy more success than dr luke. 3
ChooseyLover Posted August 14 Posted August 14 (edited) Is she really the anti-brat? Charli's definition of Brat: "You are just that girl who is a little messy and maybe says dumb things sometimes, who feels herself but then also maybe has a breakdown but parties through it. It is honest, blunt and a little bit volatile. That's Brat." She's superbrat if anything Well, if being extremely messy and not really honest still counts as Brat... Daddy Posted August 14 Posted August 14 2 hours ago, Selegend said: well they're talking in a PR perspective, not a personal opinion. when it comes to PR it makes perfect sense to describe Katy as the Anti-brat in 2024. This is exactly what it feels like all over social media. This. They are spot on!
