Her fans did the same thing when Katy had her very brief moment eclipsing Gaga with Roar vs Applause. Katycats are so focused on numbers because that's all she's had this entire time - but in hindsight it's hilarious because the numbers they dragged ARTPOP for getting are massive in comparison to what she's been pulling for the last decade

That's the thing though. That kind of narrative is overwhelming and extremely hard to overcome unless you can pull a 180 and shock audiences but it begs the question... does she even have any left anymore that can be receptive towards that kind of a career move? 

 

This was probably her last chance to crawl out of the hole that she dug herself into but instead of trying to come back with something fresh and mature and simply choosing not to collaborate with that scum, she decided to dig it even deeper  flopping with dignity and better material would have been far better for her long-term than whatever this trainwreck has been so far.

 

Kats swore that her decision to collaborate with him would not change anything since the GP doesn't care but she has been off the GP's radar for a long time now, pop music listeners are her first point of contact with her new music and everyone is aware of Luke's history. She had to gain some sort of traction with them first before the GP could give her another hit that she was desperately seeking. These songs got outright blocked, panned and rejected (and rightfully so) at that initial stage before the GP could even become aware of them.
