'Die With A Smile' is a one-off, a solitary pop star in an otherwise jet black sky – penned during one lengthy overnight session, it brings together Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars, two artists whose walls are packed with gold records. Somehow, it becomes more than the sum of its parts – a homage to those lush 70s duets, it also feels profoundly modern; both artists shine, but there's an undoubted chemistry here that lets 'Die With A Smile' have a character of its own.

There's a feeling of mutual respect on this latest single, with both artists serving to push each other to different spaces. It's camp in places, but that's simple exuberant fun and hyped-up colour – the essential songwriting remains intact, plucking at those heartstrings.

Criss-crossing between dream pop production aspects, and those June & Johnny Cash moments, it pulls from the past before exploding outwards into its own timeline. An unexpected triumph, one that leans on the strengths of both artists, before presenting something new.

Love it. It's refreshing to hear Gaga in this lane, and of course Bruno shines as this is his pocket

Can't wait to hear them talk about it and how it came about
