Kesha's stage was at the back of Chappell's crowd, so everyone pretty much just shuffled in the other direction to watch her. It worked out for them both tbh. Chappell's crowd would not have worked on that stage at all. The only speakers are at the stage and the space facing the stage is extremely limited

A breath of fresh air, I'm amazed by how rapid her rise has been, Coachella was definetely the catalyst, and the people appreciate when artists are very talented and they have stage presence, especially in a world where commonly several artists lack one of them or both.

I get what you are saying, but not all the performers had this crowd.

 

Also multiple artists may play at same time
