Da Vinci Posted August 2 Posted August 2 Can you recognize if pop girls are using the same basic I–V–vi–IV chord progression over and over? Can you instantly recognize a pop girl singing off-key in her chorus and point out which notes she should've hit instead? etc. 2
shookspeare Posted August 2 Posted August 2 I took several music theory classes in college and have played an instrument since I was young, so probably more than most of my faves. Love ha down but Taylor could benefit from a few theory classes at her local community college, maybe it'll help her stop rehashing MIDnights 1

no_better Posted August 2 Posted August 2 I know nothing about music theory but I love music more than anything, I would like to learn
BrokenMachine Posted August 2 Posted August 2 I'm not sure. I can't identify chord progressions yet, but I couldn't care less about it as long as the instrumentals, vocals and lyrics are good. Still, I guess I'm fine when it comes to disecting vocals. I can identify when the singer is singing off key in her chorus, if the rasp in the vocals are natural or outright straining, if the autotune is way too much, if there's reverb, if they're lip syncing or singing live, if the vocal runs are on key or sloppy and all of that. I guess that's what it comes when you're chronically online watching video analysis of the vocal trinity along with others like Xtina, Demi and Tori Kelly
MatiRod Posted August 2 Posted August 2 You don't need music theory to understand (or even write, just basic knowledge of chords) pop music
Sheep Posted August 2 Posted August 2 (edited) my fav was formally educated and groomed to be one of the greats from the time she was a little girl so definitely not Edited August 2 by Sheep 1

Alldeezy Posted August 3 Posted August 3 Allday & Jordan are musical geniuses (Allday writes ALL his stuff and never has a song that sounds the same and Jordan is writing and producing most of your faves songs probably) but I noticed most pop girls do seem to have the same sound
