A downtown Toronto route will be named after Taylor Swift for the whole month of November when her "Eras Tour" stops in the city for six sold-out nights.

 

During Thursday's city council meeting, Coun. Jennifer McKelvie's motion to designate the route from Rogers Centre to Nathan Phillips Square as "Taylor Swift Way" was approved by a vote of 21 to 1.

 

The lone no was Coun. Josh Matlow. Speaker Frances Nunziata quipped after the vote, "Matlow does not like her songs," which got a laugh from councillors.

 

When asked about his vote, a smiling Matlow later told CP24: "Because it's a complete waste of time. I'd rather focus on issues like flooding today, like cost of living, like cost of housing. There are people in the city who are asking us to focus our energy and our time at council on our priorities."

 

"I'm just not interested in trying to be cool with the Swifties, not that I ever could anyway," he added.

so glad this is what our politicians are choosing to spend their time discussing real issues this isn't even anything against Taylor because other cities have done similar things when big acts are in town for tour, but this is just so stupid.

 

we have an insane housing crisis, homelessness is steadily increasing, flash flooding destroying infrastructure and displacing people, etc. but let's waste taxpayers' time and money with this garbage i guess

Beyond stupid. Toronto is an absolute mess right now and the city council is voting on vanity crap like this for Taylor Swift? Give me a f*cking break.

 

She's not the first major artist to do multiple nights in Toronto - why does she need a street named after her, even if it's temporary? I am so sick of her and her psychotic fanbase, this level of overexposure is INSANE.

 

Anyway countdown to my notifications being flooded with gif avatars of Taylor and replies of how this is all just MEETING DEMAND or that I'm an obsessed hater!
