Katy Perry - "Lifetimes"

Element
Message added by Element,

Please keep discussion in this thread focused on the song. Discussions about Katy Perry's larger scale career/choices, and other artists should NOT be done here. There are plenty of other places to do so on ATRL. Thank you!

This is performing even worse than WW somehow. :jonny: An absolute disaster. I still think she needs to move on ASAP before this era does even more damage to her existence.

It hasn't even been sent to radio. As of now it's just a promo single, not an actual single release.

It's probably gonna do around 900k on Spotify, OUT of Spotify Global Chart which is a new level of flopage that even names like Kim Petras couldn't reach yet

They are both far from their peak girl, calm down. If you wanna compare Gaga and Katy Perry. Go make the 1,000,001 thread for it. This isn't the thread for it. Have a nice day sweetie! :celestial2:

I feel some of these people don't like the song because it's Katy, everybody keeps saying IT'S GENERIC!!!!! but they stan songs with the most basic ass lyrics and bland ass beats like girl, this is basically goes in line with the generic music you bop to :deadbanana:

Anyway, the song is a bop, sure they could've done more with it but I'll take it for what it is, a carefree mindless bop :michael:

It’s a (very generic) bop but I’ll put it on my playlist and listen to it a little bit

This would have never done anything, but I do feel like if Lifetimes came first this era she could have had a cute little Ava Max moment idk

I like it; this is what the lead should have been... although, I'd much prefer "Nirvana" at the end of the day.

"Baebee you and me" post-chorus approaches Walking On Air level of pop perfection

Very enjoyable listen

It's very ...London circa 2015/16. I don't hate it. :jamming: :fan:

It gives me a mix of these 2 songs. But a bit more generic

It's pretty clear that they tried another Walking On Air with this song. But i wonder what happened to them while producing it that they didn't gave it some personality like they did for WOA. How could they listen to both songs and think they did a good job this time?

I've been thinking about this as well. And I've tried to re-arrange the song in my head but then the result feels waaaay too similar to Walking On Air. Idk I feel like they found the perfect formula with WOA and there was not much to improve on so they tried this odd song structure to differentiate it a bit, but the result is a bit clunky in comparison.

it's their own fault for going ahead with the horrendus womans world lead, had she picked this she'd have a least got a 'when im gone' treatment - smaller TTH playlists and big dance ones
She is literally now effectively banned from TTH from all the floppage, unless she gets a hit or a collab that's a scary place to be

its not like they used a coin for WW placements either :rip: not sure why they greenlit that lead when they didnt believe in it to begin with

My issue with it is it doesn't really go anywhere. It's fun, it's clubby, it's catchy, it's Katy, it's upbeat, it's summery but it moreso fulfills a checklist than imbuing any sort of sonic euphoria and a song like this should do exactly that. If you compare it to the actual 90s club songs this references, there is immense gravity to them, or else they soar. Here, it's just kind of matter-of-fact. It sounds like the music you'd hear on Selling Sunset, more than a Katy Perry second-single.

Somehow? Low budget vid, no lead hype, worse streaming placements, no controversy... Is it truly that hard to wrap your head around it? :rip:

I'm Katy's fan and I was looking forward to new album, however everything this era so far is disaster and the snippets she played didn't sound better either.

I think they will release album and move on to world tour which will be marketed based on her back catalogue. Hopefully she wont end up like J.Lo

By doing the most, do you mean...critiquing a song...on a pop forum...in the thread that opinions about the song belongs in?

The fact y'all always get this one out whenever someone releases something… not fun

Having fun is about getting excited, getting something fresh, something new, something catchy, something that stimulates the brain

Lifetimes is none of that

I can't wait for this instrumental to be used in a YT video spoiling the Season 17 and All Stars 10 cast of Drag Race next year

Of course. Yesterday i was listening to WOA and you can see that they really did a nice job at creating a dance pop song that has a lot of personality. All the angels voice on the bridge, the lyrics about it and the momentum being hyped ate the production to explode in the last chorus. Lifetimes failed hard when compared to WOA.
