Katy Perry - "Lifetimes"

Element
Message added by Element,

Please keep discussion in this thread focused on the song. Discussions about Katy Perry's larger scale career/choices, and other artists should NOT be done here. There are plenty of other places to do so on ATRL. Thank you!

This is okay, but it's very dated.

Idk why the pop girls feel the need to keep giving us these same watered down house pop songs… it was cute in 2014 but do people actually crave this production?

Maybe because Teenage Dream is the greatest pop album of the last decades?! It's almost impossibile to top yourself when you've already done the best.

I can think of at least ten pop records more influential and better than Teenage Dream so let's cut this nonsense. Katy released a radio-friendly album produced by the top producers at the time.  Dr.Luke, Max Martin and Bonnie McKee also gave Britney and Kesha top 10 hits around the same time telling you everything you need to know regarding Katy's artistry. Had she been behind her success we wouldn't be having the conversation we're having right now.

This song tries to replicate a formula that doesn't work in today's music landscape let alone offer anything different other than what we already discussed and the fact that Katy keeps releasing the same song over and over and over again expecting different results gives you an idea of the limited scope of her talent of skills as an artist.

Katy has a great voice for house, melodic house and progressive house music. If she wanted to make a bop dance record, she should work with producers that specialize in that music over Dr Luke.

When you put this song on repeat it's really hard to tell when it ends and when it's starting again. I think this was intentional and makes sense with the Lifetimes tile. :clap3:

Sounds like some random Joel Corey, Jax Jones UK radio fodder. If this is the sound she wanted to do, there's much better producers out there she could've worked with. Luke is so sonically stuck in 2014

lets not pretend its not a bop but...

it sounds like capital FM UK told katy they want a 4 month top 5 airplay smash and she said 'no worries' and submitted this hihi

it would've smashed in 2009 along with 'when love takes over' but in 2024 its redundant radio fodder that wont be remembered. in fact, she will have a hard job getting people to stream this. like ava max's 'everytime i cry'.

The production is so tight, and the hooks in the chorus are great, but everything else feels very limp and half baked.

Lyrics (which I normally don't pay much attention to) are noticeably lazy. If you're going to repeat the pre chorus melody 80 times, at least come up with more than one bar of lyrics for it. The verse melody also doesn't quite stick - something clunky about it. This is probably why the song is 90% chorus and post chorus (and why the song has admittedly grown on me already)

Ugh.. I don't like this at all. Sad to see her go out like this

Lms are still obsessed with Katy, and for some reason flocked to this thread to drag a harmless song. At least Katycats, Katyclowns and even it's Katyrats make sense to be here, y'all are just looking for content that ain't coming until September.

Or we enjoy pop music and are as entitled to our opinion as you are to yours

The lyrics are still dreadful - more AI than Woman's World lol way better production but she seems like a guest feature  to a DJ on her own song

I feel like the iTunes charts shouldn't even exist in 2024. This probably equates to 143 downloads and a dream, I fear.

It's not the best song in the world but to think she released Woman's World as the lead single over this... :toofunny3:

Not only is this a safer option, but at least it isn't a song about female empowerment produced by Luke. A Luke song still, yeah, but I'm sure people wouldn't have been as harsh if she had dropped this cute bop with basic but relatable lyrics.

I just can't comprehend how her mind works when it comes to singles or music in general.

ROI is highly negative for this era. It's just a charity.

Lol I totally agree it's been over a decade since gaga had a solo hit. I think the horrible applause made top 10? That's her last I think?

It's so funny how Madonna kept smashing over decades and these girls can't pull anything.

always remember us this way (a solo song) has 1.3 billion streams

i need y'all to be serious...
