Katy Perry - "Lifetimes"

Element
Message added by Element,

Please keep discussion in this thread focused on the song. Discussions about Katy Perry's larger scale career/choices, and other artists should NOT be done here. There are plenty of other places to do so on ATRL. Thank you!

When has Katy ever had deep and profound lyrics?

Not you looking for something that has never been there in the first place, then complain :ahh: :ahh: You can simply not follow Katy and listen to her music if it's not your type of thing

It's giving background music for retail stores and gyms

okay but why are we suddenly saying that KP never had deep lyrics in her career? :deadbanana2: why do we have to be so binary...?

What the **** is this. Both song and video are tragic tbh. I mean are people really talking about Expresso when that song, despite being generic as f, is a good bOP. This is generic but straight up bad bad bad.

It's kinda funny when this is put on repeat. If not paying attention, you can't even tell when it ends and starts again :dies: :dies: LIFETIMES indeed

No one checks out Katy's music for the lyrics; and there's nothing wrong with that. She is known for crafting catchy melodies

It sounds like Girl Gone Wild by Madonna and Let There Be Love by Xtina with the EDM synths. I think it was meant to come out earlier but got delayed after the injury so it sounded dated when it came

It's been 11 years and Applause sounds fresher than this song that came out last night

I really want to like this more than I do, but tbh I never really thought much of the song to begin with after hearing the snippet. Although it's a perfectly serviceable song, for THE Katy Perry it does sound a bit generic and uninspired

I don't get the criticism over the video, it's perfect for the mood of the song. Reminds me of the videos for Glad You Came by The Wanted and that Peggy Gou song, carefree and fun

i can assure you no one's expecting deep/raw songs from katy perry out of all people, atrl's main taste is stanning fun, carefree but still fresh and textured pop music, something katy's been incapable of releasing since teenage dream.

this is just embarrassing atp

For me and my music tastes it's not embarrassing at all, but I guess we can agree to disagree:sun:

They should push this on all the major dance music playlists. This feels like one of those random dance songs that you come across on a playlist, didn't even realise charted, but has like 300/400m streams. Which is not always a bad thing.

I don't know why people are going on about the writing credits. Sometimes anyone in the room when a song is written can be owed a writing credit. 2 of the writers are also the producers. We don't know what contractual obligations play out behind the scenes that entitle someone to a writing credit.

I'm sorry but I love it. The chorus is catchy, you can't deny that.

If the song would have a bridge or a change in beat - it would have a bit more depth to it.

It's a lot better than Walking On Air.

The video reeks of last minute change of plans, but whatever.

Will this be the hit she needs? I don't know.

Her label has spent a radio deal budget and opportunity for WW. I hope they can repeat it with LT.

Honestly the clips never excited me cause it seemed generic af and sure enough...

It's cute tho. Not as cute as WW tho. The video is fun. Just so funny it's everything we begged for 10 years ago for "Birthday" but alas

The verse sounds IDENTICAL to the verses of this smasha @magazine

C'mon, if you listen to this and think this is like the carefree bops she used to make you are prolly lying to yourself.

She got only 1 good thing going with her during that prime era and now it's gone. There's really no redeeming quality to her now.

Maybe a club mix might help the song. It feels like something is missing tbh :biblio:

Is her team serious? How did they promote that song over this? :rip:

It's a good song. It's a drastic improvement from WW. This should have been the one to kickstart the era

Almost everyone here whether they like or the song or not pretty much agree it's not as good as her earlier music… why don't we stop comparing songs she's releasing now to music she released over two decades ago

A euphoric bridge and a punchy final chorus really could've elevated this song, I loathe how tik tok and streaming have impacted so much of the artistic integrity of mainstream pop.

that being said it's still very catchy and I enjoy it. Is the sound dated? Maybe. Calling it straight up bad though is a little dramatic
