Katy Perry - "Lifetimes"

Element
Message added by Element,

Please keep discussion in this thread focused on the song. Discussions about Katy Perry's larger scale career/choices, and other artists should NOT be done here. There are plenty of other places to do so on ATRL. Thank you!

This song knocks, I like the structure tbh if I'm listening to house I don't want verses slowing it down:giraffe:  I hope most of the tracks we haven't heard teased are pure dance like this.

Her voice sounds so ******* good too, I fell in love with her because of her tone and how she sounds on dancey tracks like this.

I don't know how to explain it but I do agree that TD sounds and looks way more elevated

I mean the way they filmed it was intentionally that it looks like that ig, but it really looks like her vacationing and having a camera with her. That's what I meant, while Teenage Dream looks more professionally shot.

I think y'all are talking about having a plot and a structure, and in that sense, TD definitely feels like an MV. But speaking of budget, Lifetimes obviously feels more expensive idk.

The song isn't that bad. I wouldn't mind it if it was playing on the radio but it feels too repetitive and the lyrics are a mess (and I usually don't care about lyrics, I'd rather have a solid melody and a catchy song).

The video might be her most generic and uninspired one to this day. Katy looks cute but the video has no interest nor replay value, you can tell it was planned last minute to release something.

Still curious to hear the album eventhough none of the songs are clicking with me so far.

I had a phase when I was about 8 years old where I started writing songs and the lyrics were exactly like these

Ask for the writing credit and get those dollars... Or maybe just a single dollar

#16 on iTunes US. Very slow increase. I bet it won't touch Top 5.

I find really nonsense to see people acting surprised on the simplicity of these singles and expecting some kinda of deep/raw songs. I mean we've known since forever that 143 is a dance, fun, carefree album, that's it, just move on if it's not your cup of tea.

The replay value is soooo high :clap3:

When you loop the song the ending and beginning flow so well together :clap3:

This song tried to sell me a package holiday to Magaluf and 3-for-1 Jägerbombs.

The ending of the video is giving feet model after flop

Was this album just really lazily put together or something? Both the singles feel like they needed a lot more reworking before release. :rip:

2 songs in and the album already has no cohesiveness :ahh:

I do like the song. Is it genre-defining and never-been-done-before piece of art? Absolutely not. Is my ass moving? Yes, and that's what I appreciate. Also, am I still disgusted by luke being involved? Absolutely.

We should just accept this era for what it is while enjoying whatever pieces we like. There won't be a spectacular success or any chart topping singles, just accept that and move on.

i can assure you no one's expecting deep/raw songs from katy perry out of all people, atrl's main taste is stanning fun, carefree but still fresh and textured pop music, something katy's been incapable of releasing since teenage dream.

this is just embarrassing atp

I'm sorry, but the verse slaps.

The bass hits harddd.

Also, it's a fun summer bop, nothing groundbreaking.

Not you guys hating Lifetimes but loving that generic coffee song sung over a vanilla Jack Antonoff beat.

I think the song is significantly better than WW, although it does lack a second verse and more high notes/adlibs.

Had this been the lead single, things would've gotten off to an incredible start without the female empowerment anthem controversy.

The MV is cute, but it's kinda generic.

It's kinda reminding me of Zara Larsson's On My Love MV.

What people here like is success lmao

They stan Espresso yet trash Kim Petras when Espresso is just a poor rehash of Kim's sound (Born Again is extremely similar)

I'm sorry but she should've demanded more from L*ke :skull: like she really put her whole image on the line to work with that man again and he gave her the most uninspired bland music imaginable

This can't have taken him more than 10 minutes to make, I'm sure he had the piano loop already lying around somewhere and he just added some kicks to it

If I was Katy and I woke up to a voicenote playing THIS instrumental I'd be pissed, but maybe she doesn't care

This so much!!! She sacrificed her career for this man and this is the result??

If Lifetimes is not 'fun, carefree' idk what's your definition of that.

To me it also sounds fresh, but I won't argue about that, because I can see why someone could say it's dated.
